Academic Computing Specialist - 501137

SUMMARY:

The Academic Computing Specialist (ACS) works closely with faculty, staff, and students to ensure the classrooms and computers labs (public and departmental) provide an excellent instructional environment. Works to support the software and hardware needs for Academic Computing across the university. The Academic Computing Specialist also works closely with other groups in Information Services (Help Desk, Media Support, Networking, Systems and Operations) to support and maintain Academic Computing environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical support and assistance to faculty, staff, and students with regards to software applications in academic environments to include: Installation and configuration of general and departmental specific software, diagnose and resolve issues related to software and/or hardware
  • Build, deploy, and maintain computer software and computer images for Windows and Mac operating systems
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate statistics for hardware inventory, software allocation and usage, lab and classroom usage
  • Track and coordinate assigned asset replacement cycles
  • Supervise and train student assistants
  • Work directly with vendors for technical support of software and hardware
  • Collaborate with other information services departments to create and provide secure and functional Academic Computing environments

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent skills in all phases of desktop management
  • Expert knowledge of Windows and Mac operating systems, certifications preferred
  • Expert knowledge of image management and deployment tools, Microsoft Endpoint Manager and JAMF preferred
  • Ability to produce and edit scripts
  • Ability to work both independently and within groups
  • Ability to read, comprehend, produce, and maintain technical documentation
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience
  • Experience in supporting a multi-user computer environment

WORK HOURS:

  • Full-time, non-exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week; nights and weekends as needed

SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 6 (Hiring Range $22.17 to $29.38 per hour)
