AARPs Integrated Communications and Marketing (ICM) Group includes Membership, Content and Editorial, Customer Experience, External Relations, Brand Strategy and Strategic Communications. Across paid, earned, shared and owned channels, ICM manages AARPs reputation, drives engagement and member growth, and showcases AARPs mission and value through one, integrated voice.

The AARP Book Division Director is a key role responsible for overseeing and driving the success of AARPs Book Publishing. This position involves a wide range of responsibilities, including editing, framing, negotiating, and marketing books. The Book Division Director will have a strong understanding of the Book Publishing industry with connections to publishers and agents. As the Book Division Director, you will play a pivotal role in continuing to shape the organization's Book Publishing success. We are looking for a dynamic and experienced professional with a passion for Book Publishing and a strategic mindset.


Responsibilities:
  • Leads the creation of authoritative and trustworthy content for digital, print, and other platforms that appeals to the 50+ demographic and amplifies the organizations social mission.
  • Ensures that content is high-quality, adheres to publishing and digital best practices, enhances the user experience, and is presented in innovative and compelling ways.
  • Collaborates with senior management and internal stakeholders to develop short and long-term content strategies that help grow impact, relevance, and revenue.
  • Employs digital analytics tools and other resources to develop an in-depth understanding of the 50+ audience. Analyzes content performance and identifies opportunities for sustainable growth of the organizations existing and emerging content platforms.
  • Builds and maintains constructive and productive partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. Stays abreast of new initiatives, campaigns, programs, and research.
  • Monitors major developments and news of interest to the 50+ audience and acts as a key decision-maker on content priorities.
  • Oversees, guides, and manages internal and external content contributors.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, or related field.
  • 10+ years of recent Book Publishing experience, with connections to publishers and agents.
  • Project management experience.
  • Top notch substantive editing, copyediting, and proofreading skills.
  • Highly creative and proactive individual with strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Excellent negotiation abilities and outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications, including Excel.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)
AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.

Compensation and Benefits
AARP offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including a 401(k); 100% company-funded pension plan; health, dental, and vision plans; life insurance; paid time off to include company and individual holidays, vacation, sick, caregiving, and parental leave; performance-based and peer-based recognition and tuition reimbursement. For this position, we anticipate offering a salary between $144,000.00 to $168,000.00 per year. This role is also eligible to participate in an annual incentive plan with a percentage up to 22.5%. Bonus eligibility is dependent upon organizational and individual performance.
