JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under regular supervision performs responsible technical work on an assigned shift receiving calls for public safety, emergency services and other personnel.
KNOWLEDGE OF JOB:
Receives emergency calls, determines the nature of the emergency and passes information to the appropriate Telecommunicator; maintains records, files, and logs; enters data; prepares reports. Must have general knowledge of operating two-way communications systems and general knowledge of radio code system and teletype procedures. Must be familiar with the geography of the County. Has the ability to type 30 words per minute accurately. Has the ability to work under stressful conditions and remain calm. Must be able to operate standard office, data entry and computer equipment and communications consoles. Has the ability to learn and apply new skills in the area of radio and telephone communications relative to emergency services. Performs related tasks as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOBFUNCTIONS:
Must be physically able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Requires the ability to read a variety of informational documents, maps, computer screens, books, procedure manuals, check lists, vehicle cards, weather teletypes, computer printouts, and methods and procedures. Requires the ability to talk and/or hear; to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, and to follow oral and written instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with an emergency.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High School graduate with the ability to learn and apply new skills in the area of radio communications relative to emergency services. Must successfully pass the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy forty hour course and successfully complete and maintain SLED CJICS/NCIC certification. Must have no disqualifying criminal history.
Minimum Requirements for Qualification
- 18 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Drivers License
- Type a minimum of 30 words per minute
- Pass hearing, vision, and drug screenings
- Pass a psychological exam
- Pass a Criminal History Background Check
- Perform well on a pre-employment aptitude test and an oral interview
