Supports the Ada County 911 Emergency Dispatch Center with researching and responding to audio records. Reads and interprets documents to ensure a complete and accurate record is maintained. Interacts extensively with law enforcement officers, courts, attorneys, and media personnel. This position is located in the Ada County Sheriff's Office, Emergency Communication Bureau, 911 Emergency Dispatch Center.
Shift Information
This position works 40 hours per week and includes benefits. Hours are flexible; generally working 4-10/hr. days per week, either Mon. - Thur. or Tues. - Fri.
Essential Functions
- Receives and responds to audio recording requests;
- Supports the QA team as needed;
- Composes and edits letters, e-mails, and other correspondence, and disseminates information;
- Explains policies and procedures pursuant to requests of the public, other officials, and departments;
- Scans documents into several electronic filing systems;
- Enters, prepares, confirms, and services court orders;
- Maintains files and other records;
- Responds to correspondence;
- Consults and coordinates with legal counsel regarding public disclosure;
- Preserves confidentiality and integrity of sensitive records;
- Operates general office equipment as needed;
- Receives incoming phone calls and responds to information requests;
- Performs related functions as required.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Dispatch experience preferred;
- One year of previous clerical experience required;
- Skill in performing customer service;
- Skill in organizing and accurately accomplishing work within limited timeframes;
- Skill in communicating with culturally diverse populations;
- Knowledge of legal terminology and forms preferred;
- Knowledge of law enforcement terminology preferred;
- Knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling;
- Knowledge of modern office equipment, practices, and procedures;
- Ability to maintain a large amount of data with a high degree of accuracy;
- Ability to work under own initiative and utilize independent judgment;
- Ability to research, investigate, and correct clerical data;
- Ability to maintain integrity and confidentially of records and processes;
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions;
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with department staff, other agencies, and the public.
- Must appear before an oral board and complete a polygraph and background investigation prior to hire;
- This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions;
- May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.;
- Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks.
