Description:

Reports To: Principal, Assistant Principal or Building Administrator
Position Summary: The teacher plans, organizes and implements an appropriate instructional program in keeping with the mission of Constellation Schools that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The teacher complies with all pertinent State of Ohio and Federal educational requirements.
Status: Full time or part time depending upon the needs of the school.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare written lesson plans according to the format and timeline prescribed by the Principal, Assistant Principal or Building Administrator.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences; establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development; update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, Constellation policies and school regulations.
  • Collaborate with grade level peers to analyze student data and strategize ways to improve student achievement.
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development; provide appropriate feedback on work.
  • Administer assessment and achievement tests as prescribed by the school.
  • Incorporate character education into the daily curriculum and the visual appearance of the classroom.
  • Demonstrate effective classroom management skills; manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Apply discipline in a positive and constructive manner in accordance with the plan established by the school.
  • Refer to the Principal, Assistant Principal or Building Administrator all moral, educational and disciplinary problems of a serious nature.
  • Emphasize to students the benefits of being punctual and having good attendance.
  • Render services according to the calendar and daily schedule established by the school.
  • Maintain availability, at reasonable times, according to current policies of Constellation Community Schools, to attend meetings/activities and training with: students, parents/guardians, and staff, as and when required.
  • Ensure the success of every student by providing the highest quality education; identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs.
  • Become knowledgeable, implement, and support the inclusion model of special education.
  • Deal impartially and justly with students regardless of the physical, mental, emotional, political, economic, social, religious, or racial characteristics.
  • Respect the basic responsibility of parents/guardians for their children and establish friendly cooperative relationships.
  • Teach with enthusiasm and pride and to be an example of good character.
  • Integrate technology effectively to enhance student engagement and increase student achievement; teach students how to go beyond consuming on line content to creating their own content.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor: dress, and act at school in such a way as to ensure respect from students, parents/guardians, colleagues, support staff and visitors.
  • Work cooperatively with Principal, Assistant Principal or Building Administrator and staff to create standards for the school and organization; participate in the design, support and evaluation of the curriculum; assist with determining the text books, materials, furniture and equipment necessary for proper implementation of the educational program and betterment of the school.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations; participate in department and school meetings, parent meetings.
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with colleagues; provide assistance when possible to improve their teaching, i.e. by being a mentor, sharing materials and teaching methods, and allowing them to observe your lessons etc. The sharing of a best practice is expected.
  • Obtain the Principal, Assistant Principal or Building Administrator's authorization for all special activities, changes in schedules and for all information distributed or disseminated relating to or regarding the school.
  • Take appropriate care to protect the materials, equipment and facilities of the school and maintain a neat and clean classroom environment.
  • Performs in a fiscally responsible manner, assuming care and respect for school/classroom materials.
  • Fulfills requirements to meet emergency drills/responses as set forth in the emergency operation plan.
  • Provide parents/guardians with information that will best serve the interests of their children (such as, weekly progress updates); maintain confidentiality with information received from parents.
  • Participate in the in-service program and work diligently towards the goals established with the LPDC.
  • Maintain a welcoming presence; welcome parents/guardians and students daily in a friendly, helpful manner.
  • Maintain the classroom page on the school website and update it on timely basis if applicable.
  • Engage parents/guardians; solicit parent/guardian participation/volunteerism as appropriate; encourage parents/guardians to participate in their child's school experience.
  • Contribute to the school newsletter and participate in community involvement activities.
  • Welcome prospective parents/guardians into the classroom; provide information to parents/guardians.
  • Participate in a school-wide or individual grant submission.
  • Adheres to all Constellation Policies, Procedures and Employee Code of Conduct.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal or Building Administrator.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities Required:
  • A four-year degree from an accredited college and an active teaching certificate/license issued by the State of Ohio. Work diligently towards acquiring the necessary hours for license renewal.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Proficient in relevant computer applications; able to effectively implement technology in the classroom.
  • Accuracy in entering data with attention to detail; able to update and maintain online grade books.
  • Able to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Problem solving skills: able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; able to gather and analyze information skillfully.
  • Interpersonal Skills: able to maintain confidentiality, remain open to others' ideas and exhibit a willingness to try new things.
  • Oral Communication: able to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, demonstrate group presentation skills and conduct meetings.
  • Written Communication: able to edit work for spelling and grammar, present numerical data effectively and able to read and interpret written information.
  • Planning/organizing: able to prioritize and plan work activities, use time efficiently and develop realistic action plans.
  • Quality Control: able to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and monitor own work to ensure quality.
  • Adaptability: able to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Dependability: able to be consistently at work and on time, follow instructions, respond to leadership direction and solicit and accept feedback to improve performance.

Work Environment:
While performing these duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a classroom setting. May be assigned to work outside for arrival/dismissal, recess or other school events regardless of weather conditions.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. Ability to lift 20 pounds; able to reach, bend, sit and stoop. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. Employee frequently is on one's feet. Must be able to move about the classroom to meet the needs of the students.
Travel:
Local travel to various worksites may be required for meetings, training or specified assignments.
