Role and Responsibilities:
Part-Time/Seasonal position supporting the Self Defense Test Ship (SDTS) as an Associate Field EngineerDamage Control Shift Supervisor responsible for leading the sound and security watch team on weekends and holiday shifts to include casualty control and coordination with local city emergency and fire response teams. Work will be performed on the SDTS at BAE Shipyard San Diego, California.
Position Qualifications:
•Must have High School Diploma with one to three years of experience and a working knowledge of basic shipboard Damage Control equipment and fire suppression systems.
•Must have experience as a Scene Leader and be able to mitigate, repair damage and respond to shipboard emergency and casualties.
•Must be able to take log readings and stand assigned watches.
•Perform Shipboard internal/perimeter foot patrol and safety rounds.
•Perform Shipboard security patrol to detect or prevent individuals from committing acts, which are injurious to others or property.
•Maintain a highly visible presence, observing and reporting all unusual activity. Investigate questionable acts observed or reported on the ship.
•Ensure only authorized employees and shipyard vendors or other appropriately identified persons are permitted shipboard access.
•Must have some basic computer Microsoft Office skills (i.e., word processing, general data entry).
•Must be able to use power and hand tools.
•Have a valid driver’s license with own transportation.
•Must have no criminal record and able to satisfactorily complete background check.
•Must be able to follow and read instructions, work under minimal supervision.
•Must be able to perform and complete tasks with limited guidance.
•Must have good communication skills IAW ship’s rules.
•Able to follow company policies, safety and procedures.
•Able to write, speak and understand English and able to write clear, detailed reports.
Preferred Skills:
•Must have Shipboard Fire Fighting Training or Firefighting Training in General
•Must have experience with power/hand tools.
•Must have US Navy or Coast Guard shipboard Damage Control experience.
•Navy Damage Control A School
Physical Requirements:
•Must be able to climb up and down the shipboard vertical ladders.
•Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
•Must be able to pass Shipboard Fire Party School.
