JOB TITLE: Education Assistant - Site Based; 1.0 FTE/8 hours per day; Temporary (Through June 2023)
F.L.S.A. Non Exempt
Assignment: District Wide
Reports To: Student Serveces

JOB SUMMARY
Assists special education teaching staff in a self-contained classroom by performing instructional tasks in small groups and one-on-one settings, perform record keeping, supervision and inlerventions for special education students with moderate to prolound disabilities. Regularly scheduled in a site-based classroom for four (4) hours or more per day. Performs duties with moderate supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Follows and maintains knowledge of all applicable District policies and procedures.
2. Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments (reading, math, and writing groups.)
3. Works directly with students wilh a variety of special needs.
4. Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
5. Provides a variety of instructional activities including bul not limited to transition programs, adaptive physical activlty, life-skills practice and remedial work as designed by licensed staff member for special needs students. 6. Assists students with tracking assignments and managing behaviors.
7. Assists in providing for the communication needs, nutritional needs, physical needs and administering of student health plans as needed.
8. Tests and evaluates students' abilities in math, writing, and reading and progress as directed by licensed staff member.
9. May be asked to clean up spills and wipe down tables in cateleria when assigned supervision duty.
10. Monitors and assists students as needed in the classroom, at recess, and at lunch.
11. Supervises large groups ol children at recess and lunch ensuring safety and security at all times.
12. Assists with physical management of students including lifting, moving, positioning, feeding, and toileting or diapering and restraint when necessary under direction of the teacher.
13. Performs physical inlerventions, prompts, restraints or seclusions of an intense and regular nature in accordance with District policy and applicable statues in the site-based classroom.
14. Maintains current certification in crisis intervention procedures.
15. Assists special needs students with bodily functions (toileting, diapering, and hygiene) or noninvasive medically necessary school-based health protocols.
16. Assists with physical needs ol students (carrying books, clearing access ways, etc.)
17. Escorts and supervises assigned students in various activities (music, PE, recess, library, etc.).
18. lmplements and tracks Individual Education Plan (lEP) data as directed by the licensed staff member.
19. Models appropriate behavior in various social settings; assists students wilh vocational skills.
20. Presents subject matter to students, utilizing variety of methods and techniques such as lecture, discussion and supervised role playing.
21. Conlers with teaching staff on progress of students.
22. Tests and evaluates students' abilities and progress as directed by licensed staff member.
23. Performs clerical duties, checks notebooks, corrects papers, scores tests, and records grades.
24. Assists staff with record keeping, copying, filing, grading assignments and taking attendance.
25. Assists with IEP meeting preparation as needed.
26. Transports recess equipment outside, reports unsafe equipment and secures equipment when not in use.
27. Monitors and assists students as needed.
28. Assists with loading and unloading students from buses and accessing and exiting from specialized equipment (e.g. harnesses, standers, walkers, wheelchairs)
29. Assists the licensed staff member in developing educational/vocational materials and assignments (copying, typing, laminating).
30. Provide for the care, heallh, and safety of special education students.
31. Assists the teacher/special needs students with non-instructional classroom duties such as snack, toilet, and clothing routines.
32. Assists the teacher in duties relating to supervision of playground, study hall, cafeteria, and bus loading activities.
33. Assists the licensed staff member in developing educational materials (copying, typing, laminating, etc.)
34. lmplements daily activities and instruction for students under the direction of and planned by the licensed staff member.
35. Follows prescribed daily schedule as outlined by the building administrator.
36. Assists the licensed staff member in the set-up and maintenance of the classroom, malerials and supplies.
37. Assists the licensed staff member in scheduling appropriate meetings and completion of paperwork.
38. Assists the licensed stall member, when directed, in communicating with parents/guardians.
39. Obtains special training as directed within the scope oI this position to meet unique needs of assigned student(s).
40. Participates effectively at regular team meetings with licensed staff member and other support staff using appropriate social skills, problem-solving and and conflict resolution strategies.
41. Supervises a variety of student activities including playground, cafeteria, bus loading and unloading, field trips, hallways and other areas where students gather.
42. Administer non-invasive medications or medical intervention within the scope of District policy(ies) and state and federal law, under the direction ol licensed staff and/or building administrator.
43. Assists in maintaining a safe environment for students at all times.
44. Reports salety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisor.
45. While working collaboratively with others, implements decisions within ASD established policies and procedures.
46. Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
47. Works collaboratively with District and building administrators and other department staff to provide reliable service to customers.
48. Communicate clearly with coworkers and other stall.
49. Participate as an effeclive team member.
50. Provide impeccable customer service.
51. lnteracts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, administrators and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
52. Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
53. Attends work regularly and is punctual.
MARGINAL DUTIES AND BESPONSIBILITIES
Marginal duties ot this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Assists oftice staff and licensed staff members as necessary including answering telephones, routing telephone calls or messages to appropriate staff and operating general office machinery including photocopy machine, compuler and fax machine.
2. Performs minor first aid in compliance with District policy(ies) and compleles required paperwork in a timely fashion.
3. Fills out communication logs.
4. Washes and dries student clothing as needed.
5. General cleaning including washing dishes, vacuuming and sanitizing.
6. Assists on school field trips as requested.
7. Files documents and records according to predetermined classifications, maintaining alphabetical index, and cross-reference Iiles.
8. Attends and participates in planning and in-service trainings.
9. Attends staff meetings.
SUPERVISOBY RESPONSIBILITIES
All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.
OUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school or one to two years' related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experienc. Must meet current requirements prior to hire. Prior successful experience working in a school setting or clinical setting with physically aggressive students strongly preferred. .
  • lnterpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under conlrol; remainlng open to others' ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Demonstrated ability to successfully work with physically aggressive students. Ability to remain calm and in control despite multiple distractions.
  • Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Ability to eflectively present information and respond effectively to questions in one-on-one, small group situations to students and other school staff. Ability to verbally respond lo common inquiries from students. Abilily to read and interprel documents such as safety rules, operating and mainlenance instructions, procedure manuals and governmental regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent. .
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule or diagram form. Ability to deal wilh problems involving several variables in a variety of situations
  • Computer Skills: General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use database software, email, internet software, spreadsheets, and word processing software. Student information software strongly preferred.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents and members of the community. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with constant inlerruptions
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Certificates as determined by the District including meeting current certification requirements. Ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card, Oregon Drivers License
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions and outdoor weather conditions. Employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.
