Job description

Sesame Workshop seeks a highly skilled and detailed-oriented International Social Impact Internto support knowledge management and project close-out for the Play to Learn project.

In the final year of Play to Learn, the project team will carry out important knowledge management, audit, tracking, and reporting responsibilities in compliance with the LEGO Foundation grant. Working closely with members of the Play to Learn team, the intern will be responsible for organizing and maintaining comprehensive knowledge repositories; carrying out project audit responsibilities across teams; supporting project close-out responsibilities; and other duties as assigned.

Please Note: The duration of this internship will be approximately 70-days between January and June 2024. Interested applicants must be actively enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate program and are expected to work 15-20 hours per week, approximately 3-days per week.

Sesame Workshop follows a hybrid-model, and the intern will be based in New York with a minimum requirement of 1-day per week in the office (Tuesday or Wednesday). Remote applicants will not be considered.

Applicants must already have eligibility to work in the United States without a current or future need for visa sponsorship or assistance.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Knowledge Management

  • Organize and maintain a comprehensive knowledge repository that includes project reports, data, and relevant documentation.
  • Meticulously catalog and archive project information with exceptional attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and completeness of data.
  • Updating knowledge management tracking systems to ensure teams can access materials.
  • Assist in creating knowledge-sharing mechanisms and strategies to ensure that valuable project insights are disseminated within and outside the organization.
  • Regularly update and improve knowledge management processes.

Auditing

  • Conduct audits of project documentation and records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with organizational and donor requirements.
  • Thoroughly scrutinize project documentation for any discrepancies, gaps, or inaccuracies.
  • Identify any discrepancies, gaps, or areas of improvement in project documentation and reporting.
  • Work closely with project managers and teams to address audit findings and rectify any issues.

Project Closeout

  • Assist in the closeout phase of the humanitarian project by coordinating with various teams to ensure all project activities are completed as per the project plan.
  • Compile and organize project documentation for final reporting and archiving.
  • Support the preparation of project closure reports and evaluations.

Other

  • Collaborate with project teams to identify and report on best practices, lessons learned, and success stories from the humanitarian project.
  • Support on other needs for the project as they arise, such as event planning, reporting, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current enrollment in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program and previous experience in an office setting are highly desirable.
  • Exceptional attention to detail is a must to ensure the accuracy and integrity of project data.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with document management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with meticulous care for precision.
  • Passion for humanitarian and international development work.
  • Previous knowledge management, auditing, or project management experience is a plus.
  • Ability to commit to the specified duration of the internship.


PLAY TO LEARN PROGRAM INFORMATION

Sesame Workshop has been awarded a $100 million grant from the LEGO Foundation to support an early childhood development initiative targeting the millions of children affected by the Rohingya and Syrian refugee crises. The 6-year program leverages the power of learning through play, providing communities affected by refugee crises access to vital early learning opportunities. Together with BRAC and the IRC, we are reaching displaced and host community children and their caregivers in Bangladesh and the Syrian response region through direct services and mass media programming. The program also includes a robust research agenda, collaborating with independent evaluator NYU Global TIES for Children, and advocacy components aimed at identifying good practices for play-based learning in humanitarian contexts and encouraging sustainable investment in early childhood development.
