Job Summary
Applications for the 2024 Cleveland Clinic Nurse Associate Externship will be accepted from December 1st 2023 - February 1st 2024. Program begins June 3rd 2024 - August 10th 2024. Our NAE Program has an Acute Care pathway. We have opportunities for Acute Care placements in the following areas: Med-Surg, Oncology, ICC (Intermediate Critical Care), CSU (Cardiac Stepdown Unit), CDU (Clinical Decision Unit/Observation), ICU.

To qualify for the 2024 Nurse Associate Externship (NAE) Program students must be:
1)An Active ADN Student Graduating in Fall (Dec) 2024 OR An Active BSN/MSN Nursing Student graduating in Fall (Dec) 2024 or Spring 2025
*Please include Month/Year of your anticipated graduation on resume*
2)Have, or be willing to obtain prior to program start, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). No other BLS certification will be accepted. Certification must be valid through the duration of the program upon the program start date.
3) NAE's must be able to work full time 40hrs per week during the 10 week duration of the program from June 3rd 2024-August 10th 2024
4) NAE's must be responsible for their own housing for the duration of the program. At this time the 2024 NAE program in Florida does not provide temporary housing for selected caregivers.
What is a Nurse Associate Extern at Cleveland Clinic?
Paid, 10-week externship, working one-on-one with a RN Mentor, as well as time with fellow externs in a workshop setting.
When is the Nurse Associate Externship for 2024?
Those that qualify for the Nurse Associate Externship will be in Session June 3 - August 10, 2024. During this session our externs will work full-time (40 hours per week) following their RN Mentor's schedule. This may include a combination of 8 hour and 12 hour shifts, days, nights, and weekends.

Under the supervision of an RN performs basic patient care activities. Assists with skills specifically identified on skills checklists for which training and competency has been established. These may include but not limited to vital signs, weights, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living and patient transfers/transport. Ten week program and candidate would need to attend required classes/ workshops. Maybe eligible for PCNA/ Clinical Tech/ Nurse Tech/ Surgical Support role at completion of program.
Responsibilities:
- Assists patients with tending to personal care, activities of daily living and transfers/transport.
- Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to RN.
- Assists with keeping patient rooms clean and orderly.
- Maintains personal growth and development through the ongoing process of formal and informal education.
- Demonstrates a positive, concerned and sensitive response in the workplace.
- Ability to read, write and speak English and to follow oral and written instructions.
- Good interpersonal skills to interact with patients and staff.
- Ability to perform basic mathematics.
- If concurrently enrolled in a perspective school course, will be able to perform advanced skills including medication administration and IV therapy under the direction of a preceptor. The contracted school will have a designated faculty that will participate in the evaluation of the student (NAE) in conjunction with course objectives and clinical requirements.

Education:
- Enrolled in an accredited BSN nursing school program expected to graduate in Fall 2024 (Dec) or Spring 2025

- Enrolled in an accredited ADN nursing school program expected to graduate in Fall (Dec) 2024

- Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA).

- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Physical Requirements:
- Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
