Summary: The purpose is for students in grades 6-8 to explore, play, create, and have fun with writing. Students will learn how to apply various tools that authors use throughout several types of writing. Students will have the opportunity to add to their writing with drawing, coloring, and decorating and will have products and published pieces from this camp to bring home and share.
Please note: The camp requires the participation of 8 students; the maximum number of students is 24 per class.
Work Schedule:
Sessions: Grades 6-8: June 25 - 27 / 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Rate of Pay: $36.63 per hour (based on Certified Collective Bargaining Agreement)

- Planning Day: Friday, June 7, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m
- Instructional Days; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
- Teachers work: 8:30 a.m. - 11:45 p.m.
- Student sessions: 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
- Last day of camp - teacher hours will be 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Qualifications:
- ISBE PEL with Math, Reading, Science, or Social Studies Middle Grades 5-8 endorsement, required
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
- The ability to have fun, be creative, and explore writing with students
- Experience teaching students through the writing process
- Experience teaching at the 6-8 levels.
- Experience teaching reading,writing, math, science or social studies at the 6-8 level for Junior High assignments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans lessons, activities and assignments that are connected to the grade level standards and curriculum guides in writing.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of a diverse student population.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, establishes clear objectives, learning targets for all lessons and projects and communicates these objectives to students.
- Prepares for content and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the Curriculum Department.
- Creates grade level content in writing to encourage student creativity using reading and writing samples and the workshop model of teaching.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. This includes drop-off and pick-up duty.
- Additional planning time will be provided prior to the June 7th planning day for STEM Camp Teachers
- Parents drop children off and leave
