Position: Learning Behavior Specialist & Interventionist Teacher
Description
Under the supervision of the Principal and Director of Student Services supports the development and implementation of the instructional program for special education and at-risk students
- Provide researched-based instructional practices to support academic & social-emotional needs of students and promote student growth.
- Facilitates and leads Individual Education Plan for students. Serves as case manager for students.
- Coordinates IEP team for students on caseload
- Facilitates Interventions for at-risk students as assigned
- Collaborates with other teachers to promote student learning and growth
- Completes and communicates special education paperwork for students on caseload
Qualifications
- Possess Professional Educator License
- Special Education Endorsement (preferred)
- English Language Learners/Bilingual Education (preferred)
- Proven ability to provide specially designed instruction to students with disabilities across grade levels and content areas
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to meet individual student needs
- Demonstrated time management skills; ability to handle multiple demands
- Proficiency using a variety of technology and software including word processors, spreadsheets, and databases
- Capacity to learn new software and apply skills within the work environment.
- Candidates must possess strong collaborative, communication, organizational and computer skills
- Ability to work independently, engage with the public, and appropriately communicate information to District administration and staff, as well as to the community
Rate of Pay
Commensurate with qualifications and experience - Based on Winfield Teachers Association & Winfield Board of Education contract if candidate is certified through Illinois State Board of Education as a certified school nurse.
Work Calendar
School year calendar in alignment with WTA/BOE contract. Conference days are flexed to before and after school year to allow for data review and reporting

Position hours are 8:00 am - 3:30 pm
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Works collaboratively, understands and carries out oral and written instructions, and interacts positively with a diverse community.
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with colleagues. Assists, co-teaches with and models for teachers in implementing classroom programs when appropriate.
- Uses formative and summative assessments to plan and modify instruction.
- Demonstrates content knowledge and makes connections between the content and all relevant disciplines.
- Utilizes personnel resources as appropriate to support student learning and growth.
- Understands child and adolescent development and displays an understanding of how students learn.
- Provides interventions in core content areas, social-emotional areas, behaviors, and executive function as assigned.
- Provides clearly articulated relevant instructional goals that represent significant cognitive challenge with differentiation and meaningful learning. Bases learning outcomes on district curriculum guidelines, state standards, and/or content standards.
- Provides evaluation information necessary for the completion of comprehensive case studies including the administration and interpretation of all necessary assessments as well as establishing program monitoring systems to effectively evaluate student progress
- Participates in IEP conferences including the preparation of IEP goals and paperwork in compliance with established laws, regulations, district policies, and procedures. Ensures records are accurate.
- Provides all services as required by the IEP in an integrated, consultative or direct services model. Acts as students' case manager for caseload of students including coordination of all related services.
- Support implementation of 504's and health plans for students at grade levels assigned.
- Creates a culture for learning by developing an environment of respect and rapport.
- Effectively manages student behavior through the establishment and communication of rules and procedures with clear expectations that are fair and conducive to learning. Maximizes learning time.
- Maintains a safe working environment including ensuring the classroom and learning is equally accessible to all students.
- Uses questioning and discussion techniques to successfully engage all students in the learning process.
- Engages students in the learning process through intellectual involvement with the content or active construction of understanding.
- Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness to ensure that all students learn.
- Reflects on teaching for improvement opportunities.
- Communicates with students and families about student progress, respects cultural norms, and engages families in the instructional program.
- Assists principal or designee in the employment and evaluation of paraprofessionals, necessary training and scheduling.
- Expand knowledge in areas related to the job role as Learning Behavior Specialist by such means as reading current literature on students with special needs, attending professional conferences and workshops and collaborating with other professionals doing similar work. Ensures certification is up-to-date with job specific content knowledge and training.
- Displays high standards of integrity and ethical conduct and fully complies with school and district regulations.
- Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community
- Helps to maintain a positive school district environment, utilize appropriate language, interactions and positive discipline and model positive behavior
- Ability to manage physical demands of job: walking, navigating stairs, and sitting for long periods of time.
- Some lifting of students, equipment, or materials may be required, not to exceed forty (40) pounds. Lifting of over forty (40) pounds will require the assistance of another adult
