Job Title: Elementary Math and Reading Instructional Coach (Grades 3 - 5)
Reports To: Building Administration and Director of Curriculum
Employee Status: Full Time, Exempt, Certified Teacher Salary Schedule
JOB SUMMARY: The Elementary Math and Reading Instructional Coach will lead students in a supportive and positive climate that develops in each student the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to meet and exceed the State Core Curriculum Content Standards, using approved curricula, materials, and directives of the school.
Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Facilitate the development of curriculum that is aligned with Missouri Standards; work with Mathematics and Reading Instructional Coaches to develop vertical alignment in the subject area.
  • Disseminate information to teachers regarding changes in standards, expectations, and curriculum mandated by state and federal regulations.
  • Facilitate the development of formative and summative common assessments to be used in grades 3-5; facilitate the analysis of the assessments to determine areas for improvement.
  • Facilitate evaluation of the curriculum and the instructional program and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Work with Special Education coordinators and teachers to develop curriculum and assessments which are aligned with the Missouri Standards and are appropriate for Special Education students.
  • Explore opportunities for cross-curricular objectives and assessments to increase the application of reading, writing, mathematics, and science reasoning skills across the curriculum.
Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:
  • Assist classroom teachers in developing appropriate instructional materials and strategies to improve student achievement.
  • Assist in the implementation of the 3-5 subject area programs.
  • Model effective instructional strategies in content areas.
  • Assist with the implementation of district technology initiatives. Model best practices and proper use of available technology.
  • Assist with appropriate professional development in the discipline; organize meaningful professional development opportunities for district 3-5 teachers in the discipline.
  • Support the mentoring of staff and model best practices.
  • Plan appropriate staff development with Director of Curriculum and Administration on a regular basis.
  • Assist in grant writing and implementation of awarded grants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Ability Required:
  • Knowledge of Elementary School curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Knowledge of basic computer fundamentals and software like word processing, spreadsheets and database management systems
  • Excellent presentation and speaking skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Support the philosophy and mission of the Oak Grove R-VI School District.
  • Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations.

Certification:
Master's degree in subject area or curriculum and instruction required. Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in the subject area, 5 years preferred. Must hold a valid Missouri teaching certificate in the subject area.
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift, move and/or support up to 10 pounds or more at times.

Employment in this position is contingent upon consent to and successful completion of a pre-employment background check, which may include a criminal background check, reference checks, verification of work history, and verification of any required academic credentials, licenses, and/or certifications, with results acceptable to the Oak grove R-VI School District. Background check information will be used in a confidential, non-discriminatory manner consistent with state and federal law.
Term of Employment: 9 months
