School Mental Health Program Manager

 

The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers.  To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, effect expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City.

 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW (Please list Grant Name and Location) Robinhood Grant, NYC (5 Boroughs)

The Office of School Health (OSH) is a joint Program of New York City Public Schools and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH), responsible for promoting the health of over one (1) million school children enrolled in approximately 1,800 public and non-public schools in New York City. Services to students include case management of chronic health problems, preventive health screening, urgent care, medication administration, preventive counseling, health education, referral for care and assurance of ongoing effective treatment. 

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

School Mental Health Program Manager provides school-based mental health education and technical assistance for NYC Public Schools, their community-based organization (CBO) partners, and mental health providers. S/he will administer the review and evaluation of mental health programs and collaborate with OSH leadership in developing program policies and procedures.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and facilitate partnerships with community-based organizations that support Mental Health Programs in schools.
  • Assist schools to assess and select school- and classroom-level behavioral interventions to improve school climate.
  • Provide technical assistance in identifying qualified Mental Health providers and partners, assisting with licensing approval and billing, and measuring program quality and effectiveness.
  • Work with both schools and Mental Health providers to identify ways to support and improve services to students.
  • Provide site visits to on-site School Mental Health Programs and assess existing programs and services, including current identification and referral systems and options for improving services.
  • Co-design and co-implement training and effective outreach for principal education, buy-in, and value, for Mental Health services in schools.
  • Participate with interdisciplinary team members in developing and implementing program policies and procedures.
  • Track and follow up on all requests for support with Mental Health Services and Providers within schools.
  • Provide presentations, workshops, and trainings to the school community as needed.
  • Help the school navigate the MOU, OMH, and Chancellor's regulations.
  • Establish referral network/linkages with outside agencies for both schools and DOE staff.
  • Serve as a resource on NYC Mental Health system, trends in Mental Health in schools, and other Mental Health and wellness related issues.
  • Participate and occasionally present at teacher meetings, assemblies, etc.
  • Serve as an advocate for school-based Mental Health initiatives, funding, and grants.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's level training in a human service field, with specific training and experience in child development, common child psychiatric disorders, and Mental Health education and prevention.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and five years of full-time professional satisfactory experience acquired within the last fifteen years, in a health services setting such as a laboratory, hospital, or other patient care facility, or in a public health, environMental Health, or mental hygiene program, at least 18 months of which must have been in a managerial capacity, consisting of managerial experience clearly demonstrating the ability to perform difficult and responsible managerial work, requiring independent decision-making concerning program management, planning, allocation of resources, and the scheduling and assignment of work; or
  • Ability to work effectively with school principals, professionals, and other personnel from a wide range of social institutions and organizations.
  • Mental Health Program implementation experience
  • Experience working in a school setting and familiarity with the DOE.
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word, and Power Point.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout the five boroughs.

 

 

SALARY

  • Salary range is $75,000 to $78,000

 

WORK SCHEDULE

8:00 am -4:00 pm

Monday to Friday

Hybrid

 RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

You must live in New York City Tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) in order to be considered for a position at FPHNYC.
