The Building Substitute is a part-time, non-aligned, non-exempt/hourly position that will report to the Principal. Burlington School District is seeking a Building-Based Substitute to provide instructional coverage when teachers are not in attendance. The Building Substitute will play a vital role in providing a consistent, safe environment conducive to learning by following the plans and procedures put in place by the classroom teachers.
This is a 0.5 FTE, school year position. The Essential Functions of this position include: Ability to provide instruction in K-8 classrooms with teaching licensure preferred.Ability to work with a range of learners from a variety of backgrounds including students with disabilities and ELL students.Assumes all duties and responsibilities of the regular classroom teacher.Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in accordance with Federal Law (FERPA).Ability to follow directions or teacher instructions and assignments.Provide feedback for the regular classroom teacher.Collaborate and communicate effectively with support faculty and staff in order to meet the current needs of students and maintain a positive work environment for all.Maintain a safe learning environment, take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.Maintain and enforce District Policies, regulations, and procedures.Prepare/complete appropriate reports/paperwork.Attendance in accordance with established days/hours of work.Perform other tasks and duties as appropriate and/or assigned by the Superintendent, building principal, or their designee(s).The required education and experience of this position include:Education: Minimum Required: Bachelor's DegreeCertification Preferred: Valid Educator LicenseExperience: Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities: (please see bolded bullet)Working knowledge: Sufficient familiarity with the subject to know basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.General knowledge: Sufficient knowledge of a field to perform most work in normal situations. The work calls for comprehension of standard situations and includes knowledge of most of the significant aspects of the subject.Thorough knowledge: Advanced knowledge of the subject matter.
The work calls for sufficient comprehension of the subject area to solve unusual as well as common work problems, to be able to advise on technical matters, and to serve as a resource on the subject for others in the organization.Comprehensive knowledge: Requires complete mastery and understanding of the subject.
