Zoo Assistant Custodian

DUTIES:Under supervision of the Zoo Building and Grounds Custodian the Assistant Zoo Custodian will be responsible for:

• Assisting in maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of all non-animal areas of the zoo.
• Monitoring of maintenance supplies, equipment and tools.
• Keeping maintenance areas neat and orderly.
• Assisting in animal moves and loading as necessary.
• Assisting in programs and promotions of the Zoo.
• Wearing proper designated uniform during regular zoo hours.
• Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supports all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
• Performing all other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS:

• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to operate mowers and some machinery and drive vehicles.
• Ability to communicate with customers and staff.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: Background and some work experience in custodial building maintenance and grounds keeping.

Knowledge and Ability:

• Must have ability to operate standard mechanized cleaning equipment.
• Ability to follow written and oral instruction; prepare facility for meetings and activities in a timely manner; perform routine grounds keeping functions as directed and be able to work harmoniously with Park District personnel.
• Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
• Must have a valid drivers’ license.
