Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Nuclear Facility Operator. Our team works at the Zero Power Physics Reactor and Advanced Fuels Facilities located at MFC.  Our team works an onsite 4x10s schedule located at our Materials & Fuels Complex (MFC) with every Friday off.

INL's Materials and Fuels complex (MFC) empowers the next generations of nuclear energy advanced and hosts a unique combination of personnel, facilities and infrastructure and offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels and materials from fuel design, development, new fuel fabrication, post irradiation analysis, and advanced treatment and disposition.

This is an exciting time of innovation for nuclear energy, where facilities such as ZPPR are being identified to host future micro-reactor demonstration projects.

Responsibilities Include:

         Skilled position where assignments are usually focused while working within established priorities, procedures, processes, requirements or specifications. 

         Personnel work under supervision to operate facility systems and conduct project operations within Zero Power Physics Reactor Facility (ZPPR) and Advanced Fuels Facility (AFF).

         Work activities include handling, tracking, packaging, transferring, receiving, and storing fissionable materials.

         Work environments are typical for nuclear facilities and include work inside gloveboxes, radioactive confinement tents, radiological hoods.

         Requires knowledge of radiation safety and contamination control, industrial safety, materials controls and accountability, and criticality hazards control.

         Also requires a practical knowledge of basic engineering theory in the areas of electrical power distribution, instrumentation and control, nuclear physics, heat transfer, thermodynamics and glovebox operations.

         Must learn and comply with DOE conduct of operations requirements and Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) principles.

Minimum Requirements:

         High School Education plus 2-4+ years equivalent experience OR 0-2+ years experience in related field with technical degree or certification (such as ESTEC program graduate)

         This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" / "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship and enrollment/certification in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).

         Maintain Rad work II qualification, including donning and doffing of anti-contamination personal protective equipment and able to wear a full faced respirator.

Job Information

         Salary Grade: TS0100: 170 ($55,656 - $89,112) / Salary Grade TS0200: 180 ($62,640 - $100,224)

  • TDP: Testing designated position; It will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of employment.

  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and the selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
