Sabathani Community Center (SCC) is a 58-year-old African American institution and nonprofit serving a multi-cultural community of 50,000 community members in South Minneapolis. SCC was founded in 1966 by a handful of concerned community members seeking to address social and economic disparities in underserved communities in the areas of youth programming, housing, health and education. Wages & Benefits

$20.00 - $25.00 per hour; generous paid time off; 11 paid holidays per year; flexible scheduling; medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, short-term and long-term disability; health savings and flexible spending accounts; agency-sponsored retirement plan with immediate vesting of employer contribution and eligibility for matching.

Schedule

This position is located in an office building with some duties and responsibilities able to be performed virtually, while some requirements are in the community and require using a personal vehicle for transportation. This position works during normal business hours and may include evening and/or weekend hours.

A Typical Day in the Life…

A typical day as Sabathani’s Youth Street Outreach Specialist provides an opportunity to serve homeless youth through our housing response programs and conduct outreach to community members to directly assist individuals to apply for housing assistance programs. Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Providing outreach services to those experiencing literal homelessness, unstable housing, and those unable to be inside during daytime hours to connect them to support services and life-saving supplies.
  • Staffing on-site drop-in hours at main office.
  • Coordinating with Sabathani Housing Programs and other service providers to help individuals progress towards stability.
  • Completing accurate case notes, data collection, and monthly reporting for assigned clients through online databases including HMIS and Salesforce.
  • Responding to voicemails, emails, and other communication promptly.
  • Demonstrating appropriate professional boundaries with participants and colleagues.
  • Demonstrating diligence in protecting private data.
  • Collaborating effectively with team members, other programs, and external organizations.
  • Seeking out professional growth, training opportunities, and additional tasks.
  • Maintaining a professional attitude in the face of change and challenging situations/people.
  • Understanding and adhering to mandated reporting responsibilities.

Who You Are

  • You hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • You have two years of previous experience working with families and/or single community members experiencing homelessness, or you personally have lived experience of homelessness.
  • You have previous experience with HMIS and CES Assessments.
  • You are highly skilled in both verbal and written communication.
  • You demonstrate a commitment to Sabathani Community Center values and mission.
  • You have the ability to work respectfully with participants, coworkers, and key stakeholders who are diverse with respect to race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, and religion.
  • You have the ability to establish rapport quickly with people experiencing a crisis through the use of trauma informed care, client centered care, and strengths-based approaches.
  • You have the ability to meet expectations regarding paperwork and documentation through organizational skills and the ability to work efficiently and accurately.
  • You are highly attentive to detail.
  • You demonstrate competence and comfort using technology and computers.
  • You are adaptable and thrive in a dynamic work environment.
  • You have a valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet Sabathani’s driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
