WHAT IS A YOUTH SPORTS COORDINATOR?
The role of the Youth Sports Coordinator is to be a Kids in the Game ambassador and head coach. Youth Sports Coordinator work in and manage our high priority programs, which include recess, after-school, physical education, camps, sports clinics, and sports teams. Youth Sports Coordinators are responsible for promoting our mission and values among coaches, kids, families, and school partners. Through their on-the-ground work, Youth Sports Coordinators help to execute the organization’s wide range of high quality sports and creative play programs.
The Youth Sports Coordinator (YSC) position is an entry-level, full-time position (40 hours per week). Youth Sports Coordinators typically work from Monday - Friday, during the hours of 10am-6pm. This is a predominantly coaching-based role for individuals who have worked across the youth development field and have a demonstrated background in leading and executing sports & creative play programs. You will be joining a team of 8 to 10 other Youth Sports Coordinators. We are currently hiring someone for this role to start in January 2024 and go through August 2024. This is a renewable contract, pending a strong performance, which could lead into a full 12 month contract starting September 2024. YSCs are expected to commit to this role for the full contract, which includes school year & summer camp programming.

Youth Sports Coordinator Leadership Tracks:
YSCs are expected to follow one of the two leadership tracks listed below:
Site Coordinator Track
YSCs on this track are expected to commit their working hours to recess/PE coaching, after school program leadership, and office hours to complete administrative tasks for their Site Coordinator roles. You will be placed at multiple sites for the different programs you support and you will use public transportation to move around locations
2 days of office hours (10am - 2pm)
3 days of recess coaching (AM hours between 10am and 2pm)
5 days of after school coaching as an Assistant / Site Coordinator (PM hours between 2:30 and 6:00pm)
Head Coach Track
YSCs on this track are expected to commit their working hours to recess/PE coaching, after school sports coaching, enrichment classes (Art/Science), and specialized sports classes. YSCs on this track may have modified weekly schedules that require Saturday sports coaching. You will be placed at multiple sites for the different programs you support and you will use public transportation to move around locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.
1 day of office hours (10am - 2pm)
3 days of recess coaching (AM hours between 10am and 2pm)
5 days of after school coaching (PM hours between 2:30 and 6:00pm)
Saturday sports coaching at Sports Hubs (AM hours between 9am and 1pm)
Winter and Spring Seasons - 8 to 9 weeks each
Key Responsibilities:
Direct Coaching and Program Support:
Leading age-appropriate sports lessons and group games for 15-20 children in school-based and after-school settings
Teach skills and enhance children’s knowledge of physical fitness, health education, rhythm and dance, as well as individual and team sports, through Kids in the Game curriculum
Provide appropriate safety instruction and conduct safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the overall safety of all sports equipment and school spaces
Display patience and utilize positive behavior management skills to effectively manage children's behaviors and respond to their needs.
Site Coordinator Responsibilities:
Create the daily structure of the after school schedule based on groupings of 5-10 kids per group; assign coaches to lead activities with groups
Plan, organize, and host weekly/monthly special events for kids
Implement weekly / monthly program themes (e.g. Heart Healthy Challenge) using provided program design resources
Ensure that coaches come in prepared with lesson plan modifications that are inclusive, age-appropriate, and skill-based and have a clear understanding of the activities
Become highly proficient in our student registration systems. Manage the student enrollment, payments, rosters, and attendance
Communicate with school personnel regarding facilities usage & permits
Communicate with families about student progress or concerns. Create newsletters to share with families about what is happening at program
Support in on going training with your coaching team and be a strong leader who leads by example.
Provide regular feedback for coaches under your direct supervision and conduct formal staff evaluations twice per year; connect with the People & Culture team to recommend coaches for other programs
Become proficient in using organizational platforms, e.g. Slack, Gmail, Asana, LeagueApps, Site Coordinator Hubs, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Calendar, employee portals, etc.
Office and Departmental Work Responsibilities:
Communicate effectively and efficiently with direct managers and other leadership team members, in alignment with the organization’s core values and inclusive communication approach
Consistently use organization-wide communication channels and follow relevant policies (Slack, Email, Google Calendar, etc.)
Maintain an accurate work calendar, regularly update their calendar and schedule meetings, and use office time to meet with other leadership staff, including 1:1 check-ins with direct managers and coaches under your direct supervision
Complete all required virtual and in-person training for full time staff and coaches, including the annual Anti-Sexual Harassment training
Attend, contribute, and participate in routinely scheduled meetings and trainings with direct managers, the YSC cohort, Site Coordinator cohort, Program Management team, and other departments
Attend and participate in org-wide retreats, quarterly meetings (1-2 per year), and biweekly all-staff meetings
Participate in performance reviews twice per year, write peer reviews to offer feedback on other team members, and consistently seek to improve individual performance based on peer feedback and manager feedback
Summer Camp Work Responsibilities:
Youth Sports Coordinators are expected to work at one of our summer camp locations, which operate for 7-8 weeks during the summer. Your summer camp position and location will be determined based on your year-round performance, technical skills, and level of commitment to supporting summer camp operations. YSCs are placed in positions that span between an Activity Specialist to an Assistant Director. If you are being considered for a more senior camp position, you will be expected to participate in an interview process to determine your eligibility.
Camp locations: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx (subject to change)
Time: seasonal, full-time camp hours (e.g. Monday - Friday, 7:45am - 4:15pm)

Compensation & Benefits:
The compensation package includes a salary to be paid over a biweekly pay schedule from January through August 2024 (8 months), and access to benefits and paid time off. The Youth Sports Coordinator position is renewable for a 12-month contract in September 2024.
$23,000 - $28,000 salary for January - August 2024
$1,300 to $1,600 bi-weekly salary
Salary determined by relevant work experience, education / degree level, demonstrated skills, certifications, etc
Annual bonuses + annual performance-based salary raises
