Full-Time Youth Peer Specialist – WISe Team

Hiring Range: $20.07 - $24.58 Per Hour

WISe Team Members Earn An Additional $2.00/Hour Differential!

Join our team at Kitsap Mental Health Services as a Youth Peer Specialist, where you'll play a pivotal role in supporting youth and families navigating serious emotional disturbances. As a Youth Advocate, you'll empower clients by assisting in goal-setting, skill-building, and fostering hope. You'll collaborate closely with the WISe (Wraparound with Intensive Services) team, providing peer support services and aiding in establishing a robust support network.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Utilize personal experiences to validate clients' journeys and encourage their active participation in recovery.
  • Provide daily living support, including problem-solving, skill teaching, and creating a self-care routine.
  • Foster social and interpersonal relationships through community engagement and leisure activities.
  • Offer transition support from hospital to community settings, including medication management.
  • Act as an interpreter between clients and the team, providing valuable insights from a client perspective.
  • Combat stigma and discrimination while connecting clients with self-help and advocacy groups.
  • Facilitate awareness of client rights and support clients in grievance procedures.
  • Collaborate with staff and clients in Child and Family Team meetings and other relevant gatherings.
  • Assist in developing and implementing recovery action plans using wraparound principles.
  • Provide resource referrals and linkages to parents/caregivers and community partners.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)

Experience raising a client involved with the mental health system

This position requires driving clients in a personal vehicle on behalf of the agency; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in the state of Washington, and have reliable, insured transportation.

LICENSURE: Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration. Completion of the Washington State Mental Health Division’s Peer Counselor Training and the subsequent certification as a Peer Counselor within six months of employment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Associate’s degree (Social Work, Psychology or Behavioral Health field)

EXPERIENCE: Relevant experience working with clients with severe and persistent mental illness.

Capacity to work well with children and families.
