A Youth Birthday Party Host plays a crucial role in our customers’ experience, ensuring a fun, engaging, and smooth event for both children and parents celebrating an important family milestone. We’re looking for someone to run birthday parties that wow both kids and parents. Our themes are built around technology, but you don’t have to be an engineer to run these parties, we’ll train you on any technology you need to know. You DO need to have a growth mindset and not be intimidated by technical challenges.

This role requires a mix of enthusiasm, patience, organization, and flexibility, with a strong focus on creating a memorable experience for the children and their guests. The schedule for this role is mostly weekends and afternoons, although other times may be available. All events will take place at our center at 86A Sherman St, Cambridge.

Responsibilities

• Engage children with party games and activities: Actively engage with the children encourage shy or reluctant participants to join in the fun. Come up with activities that resonate with the group as needed. Keep the party running on schedule, transitioning guests smoothly from one activity to another, and wrapping up activities in time for food, cake cutting, and the end of the party. Lead and coordinate activities, games, and entertainment tailored to the birthday child’s age and interests, including arts and crafts, games, storytelling, interactive play, and of course, robots. Ensure that the birthday child feels special throughout the event.
• Event Preparation: Set up the party area according to the theme or specifications requested by the birthday child’s parents, including decorations, seating arrangements, and activity stations. Clarify any questions with the customer in advance if needed. Work with parents or guardians prior to the event to personalize the party experience.
• Run the party start to finish: Greet and direct the guests, constantly keep the flow of activities, ensure that guests are aware of the party itinerary and facilities available to them. Ensure the safety and well-being of all party guests, particularly by monitoring activities to prevent accidents and managing any incidents with professionalism and care. Handle any issues that arise during the party swiftly and efficiently, whether they are related to guest behavior, logistics, or other unexpected challenges. Escalate issue if needed during or after the event.
• Handle Food and Beverage: Secure and coordinate the serving of food and beverages to guests, ensuring that dietary restrictions are accommodated where necessary. This might also include cutting and serving cake, managing snack tables, and overseeing meal times.
• Clean Up and transition: Oversee the clean-up of the party area after the event, ensuring that it is returned to its original state and ready for the next event.
• Collect feedback: Gather feedback from the parents and/or guardians about the party experience, aiming to continuously improve the service.
• Manage Inventory: Keep track of party supplies, decorations, and equipment, ensuring that any needs for restocking or repairs are reported to management.

This role is also responsible for:

• Booking and Scheduling: Assist with the booking and scheduling of parties, including providing information to parents about package options, themes, and availability, and updating the company event calendar with any changes.
• Promotion: Occasionally participate in promotional efforts for birthday party services, which may include attending events, contributing to social media content, or distributing flyers.
• Training: Participate in training new Party Hosts or volunteers, sharing knowledge and best practices to maintain a high standard of Party Hosting.

Qualifications

Must-have Qualifications

• At least 20 years of age
• 3 years of experience working with groups of school-age children, especially elementary grades
• An outgoing, positive, flexible, can-do approach to working with youth, and an open and approachable presence with children and adults
• Physical Stamina, including the ability to stand, move around, and actively engage with children for extended periods. Physical ability to climb stairs, move around the space as needed, and lift objects up to 30 lbs
• Organization skills and comfort speaking in front of groups.

We also value the following:

• Customer service experience
• Have or be willing to obtain First Aid and CPR Certifications
• Any experience with STEM/STEAM programs for youth

The salary range for this position is $25-30/hr depending on experience and schedule flexibility.

We offer a minimum 3-hr shift and free parking on site. This position does not offer health insurance or retirement benefits.
