Youth Ministry Worker

Summary/Primary Purpose:  This position protects, guides, stimulates, and helps the children in our program. This position is shared in developing our programs and program procedures. This position becomes counselor, teacher, spiritual leader, confidante, and role model.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Prepare for daily lessons.
2. Lead and participate in all facets of the program: recreation, snack, craft, etc.
3. Prepare snacks.
4. Provide Christian devotions.
5. Help teach Children’s Sunday School, Teen Nights & other youth programming as needed.
6. Enforce and adhere to the facility policies of no swearing, no alcoholic drinking, no drug use, and no violence.
7. Follow progressive disciplinary procedures when needed.
8. Check out and check in equipment, putting items away in the proper place.
1. Basic cleaning as needed to include sweeping, wiping off tables, spot mopping spills, empty garbage cans and other cleaning duties as assigned.
9. Monitor computer usage.
10. Document and report accidents.
11. Comply with Safe from Harm policies.
12. Perform open and closing procedures including opening and locking doors, turning on and off lights and equipment, getting out and putting away equipment.
13. Help plan physical activities.
14. Help to encourage children in their relationship with the Lord.
15. Be a spiritual model and mentor to children and families.
16. For this position, Sunday is a required scheduled day to work.
17. Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or GED

Qualifications:  The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

1. Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
2. The ability to access payroll, timekeeping, and personal data via a web-based system.
3. Administrative skills include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to detail and filing.  
4. Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
5. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.

Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  CPR and First Aid certification.

Employees may be occasionally required to engage in rigorous activities involved with participating in recreational activities with children. Must be able to stand, walk, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and run. Must be able to lift a child up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions:  Must be able to keep up with children who are full of energy. Must be able to frequently be in the sun and outside in varying weather conditions. The noise level is moderate to loud.
