Youth Mentoring Specialist

The primary functions of this position are to assist in program implementation, management, and evaluation; plan and implement program activities for youth mentees and their mentors. The hours are 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday through Friday, though flexibility may be required outside of these hours. This position is located at 2806 McGavock Pike Nashville, TN 37214.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Plans and implements program activities for Young Adult Mentor Program and Youth Mentor Program.
• Assist in the development and implementation of effective strategies to promote and recruit a diverse pool of mentors, leveraging local community resources, individuals, businesses, and organizations.
• Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive mentor training program to equip mentors with the necessary skills, knowledge, and understanding to provide effective support to their mentees.
• Ensures timely and thorough onboarding of new mentors.
• Maintains accurate program records regarding services provided according to Agency guidelines, using the database(s) provided by the agency and within Agency time frame.
• Actively participates in supervision sessions, periodic team meetings, and training.
• Provides transportation to clients in program using an Agency vehicle.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma or GED with 2 or more years of related experience OR associate degree with experience facilitating training, working kids and youths.
• Knowledge/experience working with refugees, immigrants, or displaced peoples.

Additional Skills or Requirements

• Ability to facilitate intercultural communication and to create an environment where differences are respected.
• Ability to exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact in dealing with the public and staff.
• Bilingual preferred in one or more refugee language with a preference for Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Dari, Arabic, Burmese, Somali, Ukrainian, Russian, Spanish, or Kurdish.
• Ability to handle confidential information with extreme professionalism.
• Ability to plan and organize work and to work well under pressure.
• Ability to follow tasks through to completion.
• Effective interpersonal skills.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills.
• Strong skills in data collection and entry.
• Ability to work well as a team and independently with minimal direction.
• Attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
• Prefer current certification in CPR with knowledge of basic first aid.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to learn databases, such as Salesforce, and other systems.
• Current driver’s license required. Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle and provide own transportation.
