Youth & Teen Program Director
Reports to: VP of Youth Development and Community Relations
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary Range: $52,000-58,000
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Youth & Teen Program Director is responsible for coordinating, supervising, and facilitating all Teen Programs at the YMCA, which include, but are not limited to Teen Nights, Andre’s Allstars, Teen Mentoring and Leadership Development. This position will also be responsible for grant management in the Youth Development department and development of new programs in line with our strategic plan.
PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:
- Develops and maintains engaging new activity and enrichment programs that continue to meet the changing needs and demands of local teens and youth.
- Directs and supervises teen classes to meet YMCA objectives. Expands Y program offerings and participation in programs within the community.
- Create and build a strong community for the teen population via special events, series and workshops.
- Collaborate with community organizations (Youth Service Bureau, Community Health Center, Wesleyan) in order to strengthen existing programs and develop new programs.
- Works with Vice President to implement grants, track deliverables and prepare reports.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Develops, manages, and controls budgets for Teen Programs. Ensures program operates within budget and program fees are collected.
- Maintains clean, organized and safe program facilities.
- Ability to create curriculum and trainings that facilitate age appropriate skills.
- Develop strong relationships with principals, school staff, and community partners. Respond to all school and parent inquiries in a timely manner.
- Assist in the planning, implementation, and supervision of special activities within both the Teen and Youth Development Department as well as at interdepartmental YMCA special events.
- Provide supervision and ratio support as needed within Youth Development Department.
- Must be a great advocate for the Y and speak positively about the Y and all its programs in the community.
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
- All other miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned by supervisor.
EFFECT ON END RESULTS:
This position directly impacts the development of current and future members of the YMCA. Furthermore, the incumbent will ensure that the program is safe, innovative, diverse, enjoyable, and serves to build character in the participants.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of three years related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of teen and youth programs.
- Previous experience managing grant funding programming including, but not limited to, grant data management and reporting, grant staff team management and hands on community work.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
REQUIRED TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Must maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES/KNOW HOW:
- Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and supervisory skills.
- Understand the relationship of the general public to the association, of staff to volunteer, and of staff to staff, and be able to effectively enhance and cultivate those relationships.
- Ability to interpret, carry out & implement into classes/programs, the mission and goals of the YMCA.
- Ability to supervise staff & volunteers while actively handling a variety of functions at the same time.
- Work as an integral member of a staff team.
- Ability to communicate effectively with adults, youth, teens, seniors and special populations.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office
