Summary
Performs high quality ultrasound procedures in accordance with approved practices as outlined in departmental policy and procedure manuals on patients of varying ages. Performs clerical duties, as needed. Responds to the needs and expectations of customers. Participates in on-call, weekend, and holiday rotation.
Job Duties
- Identifies patients using two patient identifiers; verifies patient orders.
- Reviews and confirms orders. Consults with radiologist, as necessary.
- Performs imaging examinations using established protocols.
- Assists in non-routine specialized exams such as vascular studies and procedures utilizing imaging equipment and techniques.
- Produces diagnostic images and processes; prepares images for interpretation by the radiologist.
- Documents accurate history, signs, symptoms, and preliminary findings.
- Verifies that measurements are accurately taken prior to completing the exam.
- Verifies that all images are attached and exams are linked in PACS.
- Assists physician in the performance of specialized procedures. Secures supplies and is knowledgeable of sterile techniques.
- Cleans, checks, and maintains sonographic equipment submitting maintenance requests or performing minor repairs, as necessary.
- Scans and handles patients with a high degree of professional ethics, care, tact, courtesy, patience, and safety.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate of approved CAHEA school of diagnostic medical sonography or certification program. In good standing with the ARDMS.
- 3 years of ultrasound experience performing imaging examinations using established protocols with the level of knowledge acquired through completion of occupationally specific education and
- 2 years of experience in vascular ultrasound.
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Ability to assess performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
- Ability to deal effectively and ethically with medical and confidential information relating to patients, families, physicians, and nursing personnel.
- BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire and
- RDMS - Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Upon Hire
Physical Demands
Lift and carry 25 lbs.frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
