Youth and Family Program Director

Starting at $48,000

POSITION SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

Under the Supervision of the Executive Director, the Youth and Family Program Director is responsible overall operations of youth development programs including Youth Sports, Teen Programs, Family Events, licensed School Age Child Care and Summer Day Camp.

The position will focus on building cohesive relationships in the community and with the school departments, increasing enrollment in all program areas, developing new programs, supervising full-time and part-time staff. This is a leadership level position and will work with Association program teams, branch leadership team and will manage the department budgets. Responsible for supervision of full time School Age Child Care Coordinator/Camp Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Drive revenue through the effective management of current programs (Sports, Teens, Camp, Child Care) while creating new programming to meet the needs of Y members and our community.

· Lead all aspects and Youth and Family programs including onsite and offsite sports programs.

· Supervision of Child Care Coordinator/Camp Director who oversees Child Care and Camp programming, including supervision, coordination, promotion, parent relation, school relations, curriculum, scheduling, enrollment, and evaluation.

· Knowledge of Office of Early Childhood (OEC) regulations, YMCA of Greater Hartford procedures, rules, regulations, guidelines, and Branch regulations.

· Responsible for ensuring all new staff members are provided with an initial orientation that introduces them to all aspects of program operation.

· Manage the daily operations and personnel of assigned department and programs. Recruit, train, supervise and develop staff members and volunteers to conduct programs and services. Monitor and evaluate performance.

· Ensure all site operations are consistent with YMCA Association procedures, including emergency procedures, insurance, reporting accidents/incidents, purchasing, personnel, and accounting system.

· A general understanding of financial management principles, including budget preparation and management, the needs and expectations of regular auditing, and a system of sound fiscal controls.

· Ensures quality supervision and safety of all aspects of programs at designated site through development and implementation of handbooks pick up and drop off policies, background checks on all staff.

· Maintains all necessary OEC regulations, and licensing requirements in conjunction with Association Guidelines. Ensure site locations comply with OEC, and Care4Kids.

· Auditing and maintaining an effective file system for all children and staff.

· Ensure all YMCA Compliance site inspections are corrected within required time period.

· Responsible for ensuring required child to staff ratios are always met.

· Develop resources to expand programs and enhance family involvement in assigned YMCA programs.

· Works closely with local school systems, administrators, principals, and teachers to assure smooth operations of program services, utilization of resources and proper communications.

· Participates in annual campaign, and special events.

· Any other duties as assigned.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS REQUIREMENTS, AND DESIRED ATTRIBUTES:

· Must be 21 years of age or older

· Knowledge of various resources for programming ideas and the skills to utilize that information in directing daily activities.

· Ability in organizing, planning, scheduling and coordinating day-to-day activities.

· Ability to think strategically is essential.

· Ability to relate to individuals and groups and to build strong internal and external relationships.

· Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.

· Ability to delegate appropriate responsibility involved in day-to-day operations.

· Ability to work effectively with volunteers.

· This position may be authorized to have access to protected Health Information (PHI) to perform specific job duties.

· Must be able to work with children with communicable diseases and disabilities.

· Personal qualifications as required in Part 407: Licensing Standards for Day Care Centers, emotional maturity, willingness to cooperate with the aims of the program, respect for children and adults, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene, and physical and mental health which does not interfere with responsibilities.

· Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

· CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire.

EDUCATION:

· Bachelor's degree in preferred majors: Recreation or Sports Management, Youth Development, or Social Service field

· Must have or, have the ability to meet OEC requirements:

· Twelve (12) credits in early childhood education or child development from a regionally accredited higher education institution and over not less than a nine (9) month span of time: At least one thousand and eighty (1,080) hours of documented supervised experience working with children in a program that serves children grades K-5.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 3 years’ successful experience as a supervisor and manager within the YMCA or equivalent experience outside the YMCA.

PHYSICAL JOB DEMANDS:

· Ability to walk, stand and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.

· Ability to supervise children by sight and sound at all times, provide verbal direction.

· Ability to move around a room and quickly react to safety issues (i.e. climbing, aggressive behavior).

· Ability to remain calm, objective and respectful in potentially stressful situations (i.e. crying upset child, upset parent, or upset staff).

· Ability to move around the room to assist children and supervise children with daily activities, social interaction, physical and emotional needs, including sitting on the floor, kneeling, bending, crouching.

· Ability to lift young children and objects up to 40 lbs.

· Ability to use a computer and other office equipment.

· Ability to travel to program locations.
