As a Youth Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in promoting physical activity, teamwork, and personal development among students. You will be responsible for planning, organizing, and leading sports-related, art and science activities, fostering a positive and inclusive environment, and guiding participants in developing essential life skills. This position requires a passion for youth development, strong leadership skills, and the ability to create a safe and engaging atmosphere for children and adolescents.
Preferred: Candidate to be over 21 and willing to drive a 15 passenger van.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Planning and Implementation:
Develop age-appropriate sports and fitness programs.
Create lesson plans and organize daily activities.
Instruct participants in sports techniques, rules, and strategies.
Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
Youth Development:
Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play.
Teach essential life skills such as communication, resilience, and goal setting.
Provide emotional support and encouragement to participants.
Safety and Supervision:
Monitor participants during activities to ensure their safety.
Enforce program rules and behavior expectations.
Be prepared to respond to medical emergencies or incidents.
Communication:
Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding program updates and participant progress.
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a cohesive program experience.
Report any issues or concerns to the Program Director/Manager.
Documentation: Facility Management:
Maintain sports equipment and facilities in good condition.
Set up and clean up program areas as needed.
Documentation:
Keep accurate records of attendance.
Complete incident reports when necessary.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; college degree in a related field is a plus.
- Previous experience working with youth in a sports or camp setting.
- Strong knowledge of various sports and physical fitness activities.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to adapt to diverse participant needs and abilities.
- Must pass a background check.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to participate in physical activities and sports alongside participants.
- Ability to lift and carry sports equipment as needed.
- Stamina and endurance to engage in outdoor activities.
