About the Organization:
Vikara Village® is a nonprofit organization that uses the communal spirit of mind-body practices, like movement and the arts, to empower individuals to reach their full potential. Vikara Village® works with individuals in the Metro DC Area. Vikara Village® programs include: Bold Heart Yoga and Purpose + Peace Yoga. For almost a decade, Vikara Village® has helped over 2,400 people develop a healthy sense of self, community and belonging through our programming.
Position Summary:
Vikara Village® seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist with our programming efforts. This 1099 Contractor position is an excellent opportunity to hone your mind-body facilitation skills with individuals who have experienced trauma/toxic stress, while working with a small, community-based nonprofit organization. This position is an excellent opportunity for yoga and other movement-based teachers who are interested in trauma-informed, mind-body practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the execution of Vikara Village®’s organizational goals by ensuring quality programming is provided
- Understand the importance of trauma-informed care treatment and maintain a strengths-based, empowering, trauma-informed environment for participants and volunteers
- Have a working knowledge of human development, particularly positive youth development when working with youth
- Create an appropriate program structure based on the needs of the specified location within Vikara Village®’s practice approach
- Maintain accurate records on registration growth and retention and programming offered, and report as required to managers and staff
- Participate in regular contact/meetings, timely communication, team building activities, problem solving, conflict resolution and effective liaison with organization staff
- Participate in additional organization and administrative activities as needed to help increase Vikara Village®’s visibility in the community
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED required (Bachelor's degree preferred)
- Extensive experience and/or knowledge of movement and mind-body practices, Yoga Teacher certification (YTT completion and/or RYT/E-RYT-200+)
- Interest in trauma-informed care and willingness to continue learning
- Strong and effective written and oral communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to think critically
- Excellent presentation skills and ability to interact effectively in a public setting
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Reliability and positive attitude
- Ability to prioritize and manage simultaneous tasks
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to utilize basic technology (email, Google Suite, etc)
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner with fellow team members and community contacts
- Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines

- Interest in trauma-informed care, self-care practices and mind-body skills
