The City of Lafayette is looking for inspiring, knowledgeable and experienced Yoga Instructors to join our team of fitness professionals. In addition to designing, implementing, and leading safe and effective classes to participants of various experience levels, you also need to be organized, reliable, and able to arrive at all your scheduled classes on time. We are hiring instructors in a variety of yoga methods including Power/Vinyasa, Gentle/Restorative, Yoga Sculpt and Kaiut Yoga.
We are collecting applications for this position through August 18, or until the position is filled.
Fitness Instructor:
- Minimum Education: 200 Hour Yoga Certification from accredited agency. CPR certified.
- Minimum Experience: 1 year
- Hourly Rate: Fitness Instructor: $14.75-$18.44
- Minimum Education: 200 Hour Yoga Certification from accredited agency plus an additional 200 hours of specialty yoga certifications. Teaches multiple formats that we have on our weekly schedule. Considered as a subject expert for area of specialization and may train other staff on specific knowledge. CPR certified.
- Minimum Experience: 5 years of consistent teaching
- Hourly Rate: $17.25-$24.15

General Summary
Provides group fitness instruction, monitors, educates patrons on fitness and safety, and maintains a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants. Responsibility and skills needed to perform the functions of the job increase with the level of Senior Fitness Instructor.
The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:
- Leads, instructs and motivates participants in group exercise activities.
- Teaches scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provides adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down or teaches to a specific format.
- For each class, plans class curriculum, and prepares music and appropriate equipment, setting up and taking down equipment as required.
- Assists patrons, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for diverse participants with varying skill levels.
- Provides a safe, effective and supportive learning environment.
- Keeps supervisor informed of customer and facility needs.
- Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are followed.
- Keeps accurate track of class attendance.
- Responsible for finding a dependable, appropriate substitute upon their absence.
- Attends scheduled meetings as required.
- Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE: Thorough knowledge of city and department rules and regulations; considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, teaching methods and techniques that provide positive motivation; working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and training principles. Thorough knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies including: the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique, and rhythm.
SKILL: Public relations skills; demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job; choreography and music skills.
ABILITY: Plan, organize, instruct, and supervise the assigned program; control large groups of people; follow written and verbal instructions; remain current on the trends of the fitness industry; communicate effectively to the participants when teaching skills; analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper course of action to be taken; work with little or no supervision, as necessary; analyze and correct facility safety hazards; write incident and accident reports, as necessary; learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public.

Evidence of Qualifications
TRAINING:Must hold current Fitness Certification from an accredited agency (ACE, AFAA or equivalent); Additional specialty/certifications preferred.
EXPERIENCE:Must be at least 18 years of age. Previous instructional experience preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must hold current CPR/AED certification.
