Yoga Instructor
Salary starts at $20.00/hour.
Under the supervision of the Senior Program Director, the Yoga Instructor will be responsible for teaching yoga classes: offer quality customer service to our members by teaching safe and functionally challenging classes that promote total fitness development.
Essential Functions:
- Always being an advocate for the Y.
- Lead classes following YMCA fitness standards.
- Develop positive relationships with members and provide motivational support and guidance.
- Supervise class participants and activities to ensure safety and report any irregularities to supervisor immediately.
- Make yourself available to all members regardless of age, gender, race, socioeconomic status, or fitness level. Share your knowledge and be a resource for sound health and fitness information.
- Take responsibility to keep studio/exercise classroom and equipment neat and clean.
- Assume total responsibility for obtaining qualified substitutes when needed and inform supervisor.
- Allow at least ten minutes to prepare for class and allow for at least five minutes after class to be available for members.
- Ensure safe and effective workouts. Respond to, and report, accidents and incidents.
- Attendance at staff meetings is mandatory.
- Must have fitness/wellness background and ability to individually and group instruct others.
- National certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or must be willing to complete the YMCA’s foundations of Group Exercise within 30 days of hire.
- Appropriate Yoga Certification.
- CPR/AED Certification required upon hire.
- Ability to motivate and lead others.
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
- Should have a basic knowledge of body mechanics to know what effect the movements have on various major muscle groups in order to prevent injury.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
- Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift
- Must be able to bend and stoop occasionally
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds occasionally
