This position will operate a yard truck to move empty and loaded trailers to appropriate locations within the facility for efficiency in load preparation, with oversight to ensure trailers are loaded at appropriate weight and dimension and secured safely in accordance with state and federal road regulations. Participate constructively to the loading, unloading, movement and warehousing of products by safely and efficiently operating yard hostler on the mill site. Will also be responsible for loading and unloading sawmill residuals utilizing a loading hopper for top loading truck trailers and unloading trailers using a tipper onto a conveyor.

• All mobile equipment must be driven and/or used in a safe and efficient manner at all times
• Complete safety observation cards and reports as directed
• Ensure all loads are properly secured and weight is evenly distributed on trucks and trailers. Check tie downs, tarpaulins and curtain straps to ensure load is safe and secure. Detects and corrects errors and assists with process as needed
• Inspect yard truck, trailers and equipment for defects and safe operating condition before and after loading
• Perform basic preventative maintenance to ensure fluid levels and tire pressures are maintained in equipment
• Report all accidents / incidents involving driver or company equipment immediately after incident occurs
• Load trailers to ensure maximum logistical efficiency in a manner consistent with government regulatory constraints for volume, weight, center of gravity, load integrity, and transportation safety
• Unload bulk residuals using a trailer tipper onto a conveyor belt
• Cleans residuals trailers after unloading using a blower and or broom. Prepares clean trailer for loading of lumber by sliding the curtains and curtain supports to the side.
• Once lumber loading is complete, properly secures the load with the appropriate number of straps and encloses the load by sliding the curtains and curtain supports closed. Re secures the curtain straps.
• Will perform other duties as assigned

• High school diploma or GED; and/or minimum of six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A CDL is preferred but not a requirement.
• Read and interpret a variety of documents and instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram or schedule form
• Ability to add, subtract and solve practical mathematical problems
• Regularly required to sit, stand; walk; use hands, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. Communicates clearly with loaders, truck drivers and other process owners who may be fellow employees or managers
• The employee must be able to use arms and legs to lift and descend themselves on and off yard truck multiple times per day
• Regularly use hands and wrists to operator levers and steering wheel and use feel and ankles to operate pedals
• Must use hand/arm strength while pulling straps using proper technique
