Yard Control

Position Summary:

The Yard Control role is critical to ensure proper management of the carriers and trailers on the Gilmer sites.

Essential Functions:

· Checks in all drivers when they arrive on site and communicates next steps with them (i.e. wait time, location to park, which door to use, etc.)

· Records and maintains accurate logs of trailer check-ins and check-outs.

· Verifies documentation and credentials of drivers and trailers.

· Coordinates with warehouse and logistics teams to ensure timely and efficient movement of trailers.

· Communicates with drivers and logistics coordinators to address any discrepancies or issues.

· Enforces safety and security procedures at the gatehouse facility, when applicable.

· Checks out all drivers when their trailer is loaded. Confirms they have received the correct material including color, the correct quantity, and is shipping to the correct customer and destination, when applicable.

· Regarding safety, ensures all glad locks and chocks are used when the forklift drives into the trailer. If the trailer is not attached to a truck, ensures the jack stands are in use, when applicable.

· Takes pictures of the completed shipment. When applicable, may need to take pictures at the beginning, middle, and end of the loading process.

· Conducts trailer inventory each day, when applicable.

· Assists with administrative tasks as needed.

· Performs other duties as required.

Requirements:

· Ability to read documentation and understand.

· Ability to understand numbers on the Bill of Lading.

· Ability to communicate with drivers and coworkers.

· Ability to coordinate with the site team.

· Acts with integrity and professionalism.

· At least 2 years of forklift experience.

· At least 2 years of experience working in a warehouse or in a trailer yard.

· Ability to work extended hours, Saturdays, and Sundays, and holidays as needed.

· Able to work in a fast-paced environment.

· High school or GED required.

Work Environment:

· The employee is frequently exposed to moving machinery.

· The job will occasionally require lifting / carrying / push / pull up to 75 pounds.

· Able to work in a non-temperature-controlled warehouse (indoor temperature fluctuates through each season).

· The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

· Personal Protective Equipment is required, including vest and steel toed shoes. Other equipment will be provided as needed.
