Job description

Description
YOU ARE a creative and experienced writer who excels at simplifying complex topics into compelling, instructive content. You are intrigued by the idea of using your storytelling skills and strong command of language to develop training materials in a business environment. You’re a deeply curious and quick learner, and you enjoy talking to a wide variety of subject matter experts to understand what they know so you can translate it into clear, digestible and meaningful content for your audience. You know how to keep a project on track, and you understand the importance of critical thinking, accuracy, and meticulous attention to detail in your work. Working independently is not a problem for you, and you’re comfortable navigating ambiguity, adapting on the fly, and collaborating to ensure your product is the best it can be. Are you ready to join our team?

WE ARE a small but mighty learning and development team that creates and delivers a variety of in-person and online training experiences for our fellow employees. As members of Weyerhaeuser’s Talent, Inclusion, Communications and Culture team, we stay plugged into company priorities and strategic goals to ensure our work has the highest possible impact. Our team is equal parts creativity, precision, flexibility, and drive. We’re looking for a smart, authentic professional who can help us take our learning and development strategy to the next level. Are you that person?

The successful candidate for this role will be responsible for creating e-Learning Content for a variety of topics at the enterprise and business level. You will be primarily focused on writing and editing instructional narratives, step-by-step guides, video scripts, informational articles, and other training content. To be successful, you’ll build relationships with internal leaders and subject matter experts to learn what they know so you can create engaging and effective training content that helps employees be more effective in their operating roles. You must be a quick learner who is willing to grow your skills using common e-learning authoring software such as Articulate 360, as well as stay up to date on adult learning research. For some projects you may also work with our internal multimedia and graphics experts and/or vendors to develop custom e-learning solutions.

This role reports to our Manager, E-Learning and is a hybrid position based out of our beautiful Seattle HQ location (must be on site Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday).

***PLEASE NOTE: Submitting a cover letter AND 2-3 writing samples is required with your application. Real humans are reading your application, so this is your opportunity to tell us why you’re interested in this role and show off your writing skills!***

Key Responsibilities:
  • Write engaging, effective and easy-to-digest training content, including video scripts and storyboards, learning activities, course content, knowledge checks and assessments, step-by-step guides, and other instructional content
  • Partner with internal business leaders to understand their training needs and develop training plans/outlines that meet expected goals and objectives.
  • Work effectively with subject matter experts to interview them about their expertise, write and organize that content, incorporate feedback, and gain approvals for final products
  • Conduct your own supplemental research on training topics as needed
  • Use e-learning authoring and multimedia tools to create the right training option for each business need.
  • Lead projects from start to finish, including assessments, project timelines, content gathering, writing, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Communicate project status updates to stakeholders consistently and on time.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and complete them on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with the broader learning and development team to ensure content alignment, and to leverage their facilitation and other skill sets as needed for blended curricula.
  • Continuously improve the quality of our e-learning materials and approach through research and innovation.
Qualifications
  • Submitting a cover letter and 2-3 writing samples is required for consideration.
  • At least 3 years of experience (with 5-7 years preferred) writing in a business environment
  • Exceptional writing, storytelling, content organization, design, and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent project management skills with precise attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Tech savvy with the ability to learn new software and tools quickly
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Passionate and committed to learning new skills, software, and knowledge
  • Bachelor’s degree required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience writing Learning Content in a business environment
  • Experience writing content for complex technical topics
  • Experience writing a variety of instructor-led and hybrid training solutions (e.g. facilitator guides, workshop materials, learner materials)
