Essential Functions

  • Write and edit content that markets and promotes the Purdue for Life Foundation, including solicitation and stewardship work managed by the broad-based campaigns team, and that engages alumni, donors, and friends with Purdue University. Work may take the form of fundraising and stewardship materials, including gift proposals and donor recognition signage; donor profiles; news releases; brochures; newsletters; social media posts; emails; correspondence; and website copy.
  • Support the marketing and communications team and other colleagues as editor and copy editor, following the Purdue for Life Foundation’s style guide and Purdue University’s editorial and visual branding guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively and collegially with Purdue for Life Foundation staff (fundraisers, broad-based campaigns staff, donor and alumni relations staff, special events staff, Purdue for Life leadership) to complete projects on time and with high quality.

Additional Responsibilities

  • As needed, conduct photo research and assist with photo and video shoots.
  • Perform other editorial assignments and projects as assigned.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required, including during Purdue Day of Giving.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Excellent proofreading and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform with minimal supervision, prioritize assignments to meet deadlines, and produce high-quality work with attention to detail.
  • Ability to take initiative and solve problems while being flexible.
  • Ability to influence and build working relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, diplomacy, persuasive ability, and the ability to inspire confidence and cooperation to drive positive results within and across the organization’s boundaries.
  • General understanding of marketing material design.
  • General understanding of the need to cultivate and steward donors at any giving level.
  • Personal computer and related software skills.
  • Knowledge of Purdue University and its fundraising history is a plus but not required.

Required Education/Experience and Benefits

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Liberal Arts (e.g. English, Communications, Writing, Journalism).
  • A combination of relevant experience and education may substitute for degree.
  • Up to three years’ experience as a Writer/Editor across various communication channels (print, web, multimedia)
  • Portfolio review required (Please attach a link to a digital portfolio showing a variety of samples of your work)
