This job contributes to Starbucks success by developing design concepts and standards, designing innovative workplace environments and leading the production of design and construction documents. This job responsibility includes managing design consultants, developing design standards for a portfolio of projects that meet cost, schedule and workplace initiatives, and manage construction administration. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
As a workplace design manager, you will…
- Develop new concepts and design innovative workplaces that promote business unit success through: assessing programmatic requirements, comprehensive and thoughtful planning, and aspirational and sustainable design. Partners with construction team to ensure design meets budget & schedule expectations.
- Monitors development of construction and design documents by external consultants to ensure deliverables are met on time, within budget and quality expectations and meet established Scope of Work
- Negotiates fees, schedules and scope with external consultants for all projects within their workload
- Onboards/trains external consultants
- Participate in project meetings and Client presentations as needed.
- Travel for assigned project presentations, coordination meetings and site visits as required.
- Serve as a resource to the Workplace Solutions team for changes in code (IBC, ADA) and other workplace trends.
- Provide pre-design services which may include conducting feasibility studies or specifying the requirements the design must meet.
- Promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
- Hybrid designer with 1-3 years professional experience in strategizing and designing workplace and/or hospitality experiences
- Ability to create experiential “universes” around ideas – encompassing all aspect of the product and experience, from digital to physical
- Visualization of product concepts and ideas in sketches, renderings, prototypes and wire frames
- Ability to develop compelling narratives through storyboards, scenarios, and user journeys
- Effectively communicate conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale both verbally and visually
- Additional experience in design thinking, product innovation, management consulting, or retail development is also highly desirable
- 5+ years of professional design experience.
- 2+ years’ experience leading complex design projects
- Experience in both spatial and product design
- Practitioner of design thinking.
- Proficiency in the technical skills of an industrial designer (sketching, CAD (SolidWorks, Rhino, SketchUp etc.), model making, rendering (Keyshot, V-Ray), research, storytelling)
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to create solutions that encompass the 360˚ product workplace experience, from digital to physical.
