Job description

The main responsibility of a Wiredrawer is to ensure efficient operation of wire drawing equipment in order to draw wire that meets the specifications and quality required by Fort Wayne Metals and our customers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operate machinery to complete the wire drawing process including but not limited to: setup, stringing, inspection, welding and grinding, and clean up.
  • Accurately record production data (spool size, wire size, shape of the wire, etc).
  • Troubleshoot wire rejected by Inspection; determine the root of problem(s), within knowledge scope of wire drawing, to solve current and future issues (problems may include: faulty dies, wire processing, wire supply, etc.); communicate problems, solutions, or suggestions to DSL/DTL or other appropriate personnel.
  • Produce wire on assigned machines according to DSL/TL's instructions and production orders.
  • Act as a first line inspector, responsible for the quality of the product.
  • Keep assigned work and storage areas clean and organized.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 year of manufacturing experience is required. Hands-on technical experience, including but not limited to mechanical, machine shop, fabrication, audio-visual, quality control/assurance, maintenance, inspection, or engineering experience may be considered in lieu of manufacturing.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Fast-paced production environment.
  • Overtime may sometimes be necessary.
  • Appropriate PPE must be worn where posted and required.

This is a unique position that operates on a 3-2-2 schedule. Below is an example of how a 3-2-2 schedule could operate:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Average weights in production range from 10-25 lbs. Maximum weights may exceed 75-80 lbs. on occasion.
  • Substantial reaching, bending, and pulling during shift.
  • Must be able to access all areas of operation, including second floors.
  • Standing/walking most of shift.
  • Visual Acuity.
