Space Dynamics Laboratory is seeking a System Administrator to design, implement, secure, and maintain systems and associated applications, services, and components. This is an on-site, non-remote position for our North Logan, UT location.
SDL supports a variety of missions, including NASA's vision to reveal the unknown for the benefit of humankind and the Department of Defense's aim to protect our Nation on the ground, in the air, and in space. Our sensors, satellites, software systems, and science and engineering play an essential role in some important missions you've heard of, and others that you haven't. Key Responsibilities:
  • Achieves in-depth knowledge of company processes, systems, and networks
  • Monitors assigned systems to ensure high availability, optimum performance, and security
  • Assists with the day-to-day operational maintenance, support, and upgrades
  • Follows established IT policies and procedures to perform audits and ensure compliance
  • Ensures data integrity by implementing standard software and hardware solutions
  • Work with your leaders to prioritize projects, requests, changes, and tasks
  • Document issues in Jira, communicate progress (though updates, workflow status, due date etc.) as the issue is being worked
  • Understand and utilize Change Management when adding, modifying, or removing anything that could have an effect on IT services
  • Proactively monitors assigned systems to ensure high availability, optimum performance, and security
  • Assists in installation and configuration of information systems and components
  • Assists in the design and implementation of information systems
  • Responsible for documentation of assigned systems and solutions

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Willing to perform maintenance and support on systems outside of core hours (on-call) as required
  • Willing to travel if required, though not usually expected
  • Strong organizational skills, quick learner, and demonstrated problem solver
  • Able to apply knowledge to complex, practical situations
  • Work well independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with a wide range of internal and external customers
  • Ability and desire to continue learning new skills as system needs grow and change
  • Active CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent certification that meets or exceeds DoD 8570 IAT Level II (or be able to obtain within a maximum of 30 days after hire)
  • Five or more years of experience in administration of Windows environments and built in roles (i.e. Active Directory, Print, Files, IIS, Group Policy).
  • Server and desktop configuration and maintenance experience
  • Ability to manage installation and maintenance of monthly security patches

Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS degree or equivalent experience in information technology, computer science, information systems, engineering, or related computer field
  • Experience with automation (patching, scripting, etc)
  • Experience with containerized platforms (i.e., Kubernetes, OpenShift)
  • Knowledge of DoD Security Requirements within classified spaces
  • Understanding of information systems security best practices and use of security tools such as Nessus, SCAP, and applying STIGs
  • Experience with one or more of the following would be helpful: Software licensing/licensing servers, monitoring software, SharePoint, server patching in an enterprise environment, backups, workstation encryption, Virtualization (VMware), storage, administration of Jira/Confluence/Bitbucket, MSSQL, and audio/video systems
  • Active US Clearance
