Flux Core Welder / Shop Fabricator

Description

Our client, a heavy fabricator and turnkey industrial construction company is looking for skilled Shop Fabricators and flux core welders to join their team.

Welder: The Welder must be qualified on multiple weld processes to include FCAW in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions. This position will perform the highest quality of welding on carbon and stainless steel on all types of products and materials using various types of automatic, semi-automatic or manual welding equipment. Sets up parts for welding; uses hand tools, clamps, jigs and fixtures. Works from specifications, drawings and weld symbols. Prepares and completes work on materials by welding, cutting, grinding and cleaning metal. Flux Core Arc welding experience is required. 1/2 inch steel plate weld test is required. Responsibilities:

  • Follow all safety regulations including wearing all required personal protection equipment (PPE).
  • Read and interpret prepared shop drawings and measurements.
  • Layout, fit & weld parts per drawings and specifications. Check layout accuracy for other fabricators.
  • Back gouge using air carbon arc equipment.
  • Pre-heat and prepare steel as required to ensure the highest quality standard.
  • Material handled manually or by utilizing various jacks & overhead cranes.
  • Set up & operate hand and power tools such as magnetic drills, grinders, cutting torches and automated welding tractors as they relate to job needs.
  • Inspect & correct welds as needed to meet product specifications.
  • Inspect, maintain, and anticipate equipment functionality; communicate issues in a timely manner

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience fitting & welding the serious desire to learn the craft of fitting & welding.
  • Familiar with variety of welding processes: FCAW, SAW, GMAW, and/or GTAW.
  • Able to pass AWS D.1.1 3G weld test using FCAW.
  • Structural steel or metal fabrication experience highly preferred.
  • Ability to deal in a systematic and patient way with factual and technical information and processes.
  • Prepare materials for welding, fit the components, and perform welding process per drawing specification.
  • Weld components in all positions - horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions with quality requirements.
  • Layout, position, align, fit, clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required preparation, configuration and/or position for welding.
  • Work from drawings, work orders, supervisor’s instructions, weld procedure specifications (WPS) using American Welding Society (AWS) symbols.
  • Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding process to avoid overheating of parts.
  • Use tools of measurement for checking dimensions of parts, work to tolerances.
  • Visually examine welds for quality.
  • Operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
  • Handle materials as needed by hand, overhead crane, forklift, and other material handling equipment.
  • Maintain work area in safe, clean, and orderly condition.
  • Must be disciplined, conscientious, and like to work with your hands.
  • Derive satisfaction from getting work “done right” the first time.
  • Safety focused, driver and champion of shop safety initiatives.
  • High School Diploma, or GED highly preferred.
  • Training or certification through a technical or trade school is a plus.
  • Operate various types of automatic, semi-automatic or manual welding equipment to join metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc and submerged arc welding.

Physical Demands:

  • Crawling, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, sitting, reaching, able to routinely lift heavy objects in excess of 100 pounds and pushing and pulling of objects is required.
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
  • Climb stepladders and extension ladders and stairs and work from a raised platform.
  • Operate tools properly and safely.
  • Operate high reaches, scissor lifts, fork-trucks, cranes, if properly trained.
  • Pass pulmonary tests to wear respirator.
  • Employee may be required to properly maintain drills, welding equipment, saws, ladders, levels, wrenches, hammers, safety equipment, all tools in the requirements list, etc.

$26 - $32/hour depending on experience

Monday - Friday - 10 hour days, option to work Saturdays, Overtime available
