Job Summary
Under general supervision, support welders by maintaining tools and equipment, and ensuring a clean, organized work environment, assist with planning and details to save cost associated with errors and consequent reworks for Tulsa County facilities by performing the following duties.
Job Description
All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.
Essential Job Functions
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas.
  • Assist welder to set up rigs and move them between work area.
  • Ensure welders have required materials and tools available.
  • Maintain stock levels of materials and supplies
  • Load and unload equipment.
  • Follow welder’s instructions and assist welder/fabricator with their duties.
  • Use buffers and grinders to clean welds.
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of various types of metals.
  • Operate various tools and types of equipment.
  • Assist carpenters and painters with duties when not working as a welder.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Skill in:
  • Operating grinders, hammers, beveling machines, torches, and magnetic drills.
  • Maintaining and cleaning equipment and materials needed for welding.
  • Checking finished work to make sure that it falls within the tolerances marked on the blueprints and or plans
Knowledge of:
  • Equipment.
  • Basic mathematical principles and precise measuring.
  • Various metals, how to clean and prepare for welding.
  • Properties of various ferrous and nonferrous metals in relation to welding and brazing, such as reaction to heat, fusing qualities and proper temperature for welding, cutting or brazing
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Departmental policies and procedures.
Ability to:
  • Follow Welder/Fabricator plans and instructions.
  • Must be able to carry tools and materials as well as assist in setting up equipment.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and more than one year of related experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License
