Duties
The job duties of the Fish Screen Structures Welder-Fabricator include,
Welding/Fabrication
- Fabricate Fish Screens to meet National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and state Washington Administrative Code requirements.
- Generate cut lists, fabricate, and assemble the work using Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG), Metal Inert Gas (MIG) or Shielded Metal Arc Welder (SMAW) welding processes.
- Operate acetylene, SMAW and MIG welding equipment (portable or otherwise) in cutting and welding.
- Operate a variety of shop fabrication equipment such as oxyacetylene and arc welders, hand, or electric pipe threaders, grinding wheels, buffers, hydraulic press, and drill press.
- Cut, weld, braze and solder metal parts in the repair and replacement of parts for mechanical equipment, or in repair, replacement, or installation.
- Follow blueprints in doing structural or major mechanical repair work.
- Overhaul, repair or replace metal parts where welding or associated metal work is the major skill required.
- Fashion, repair or replace tools and equipment.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
Field Projects:
- Perform field welding utilizing service truck and equipment as needed.
- Assist with construction and installations.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work Setting, including hazards:
- Work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, rain or snow.
- Work in rough terrain, riverbanks, slippery slopes and other surfaces in all types of weather conditions. Must be able to negotiate water in emergency situations.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, push, pull and lift fifty pounds repetitively (daily) when loading trucks or moving materials.
- 40 hours per week, typically four (4) 10 hour-days 6:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. There is some overtime as needed.
- During construction season, travel will be required up to seven consecutive nights at a time.
- Use power tools and equipment such as hand tools, chain saws, drills, grinders, welders, oxy-acetylene torch, pumps, cranes, manual/portable chain hoists.
- Frequent interactions varying between Federal, Local, Inter-Agency and Intra-Agency customers and vendors.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
AND - Completion of a recognized welder apprenticeship or course at welder's training school.
OR
- Four (4) years of experience in welding trade.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Valid Driver's License
Knowledge of:
- Accepted practices, processes, materials and tools of the welding trades.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the welding trades.
- Equipment assembly, installation, repairs, etc.
- Materials and technical practices for construction (theoretical, precise, artistic).
Experience with:
- Maintaining records regarding material, equipment, and repairs.
- Working from sketches, drawings, and blueprints.
- Maintaining and use of tools and equipment including measuring instruments.
- Using power tools and equipment such as hand tools, chain saws, drills, grinders, welders, oxy-acetylene torch, pumps, cranes, manual/portable chain hoists.
- Interpreting instructions, specifications, etc.
- Using personal computers and Microsoft Office.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Recognized Washington Association of Building Officials (WABO) Certification.
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Forklift Certification.
- AutoCAD experience.
