Job description

Job Purpose

Work as part of a team to introduce new materials and implement welding process and parameters required for new model introduction into Honda facilities. By leveraging 3D CAD software, they will need to identify key change points of adhesives, steel, and aluminum parts and summarize into a test matrix which meets HES requirements for welding. The associate will be asked to conduct the testing for manufacturability within North American facilities. The associate will study and support welding process improvements and new joining technologies across all North American Weld Departments which includes supporting welding equipment, inspection equipment, and reporting tools. Associates will need to collaborate with the design team and plant members in order to achieve required quality, cost, and safety criteria.

Key Accountabilities
  • Review New Model Car part data for identification of new joining stacks required for testing
  • Creating and executing a test list in order to meet Honda Engineering Standards (HES) and manufacturability requirements
  • Present results of testing and make countermeasure proposals for Welding process’ which are non-compliant with HES and manufacturability requirements. Lead meetings with customers both upstream and downstream to gain consensus for path forward.
  • Create and maintain a critical path schedule to maintain overall project milestones
  • Conduct On-Site investigations of Mfg Lines and facilities
  • Provide on-site support to install/modify equipment to validate criteria is achieved and stable production can be achieved
  • Lead and support activity for new joining technologies
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Required Work Experience:

  • 3 months of relevant co-op experience or relevant engineering experience

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Weld Engineering, or equivalent experiences.
  • Associates degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Weld Engineering technology with 2 years of related experience.
  • For non-engineering degree or no degree, require 3 years of related engineering experience and 2 years of experience in: manufacturing or metallographic testing or resistance spot welding or robotic gas metal arc welding.

Desired Skills:

  • Musts: Microsoft Office (Excel / PowerPoint), basic ability to read a 2D drawing, strong communication and analytical skills, ability to make and follow plans
  • Want: CAD software use – Catia 3D, Resistance Spot Welding Analysis, Knowledge of sealants and adhesives for joining materials, machining / fabrication skills, knowledge of gauging
Decisions Expected
  • Testing creation based on equipment capabilities, New Model Change points and direction for progression and results.
  • Asses new model on-line condition and recommend changes based on test results
  • Post modification validation of established criteria to ensure stable production and project completion.
Working Conditions
  • 85% Office environment – creation of specification documentation.
  • 15% Manufacturing floor – direct line side investigation / system-up support / verification at any Honda facility
  • Must be willing to travel locally, regional, and internationally as required on a project basis (to Honda facilities or external equipment vendors).
