Role Summary
To monitor weld quality and verify weld conformance to each customers' specifications.
Key Responsibilities
  • Know and understand Bowling Green Metalforming Quality and Environmental policies.
  • Follows and supports and Magna's operating principles, including:

  • Promote optimal weld quality through teamwork and determination.
  • Identify non-conforming welds using tolerances unique to each customer.
  • Prevent non-conforming product from reaching customers by working with Weld and Quality Techs, Team and Area Leaders, and communicating results plant wide.
  • Coordinate Weld Lab Priorities to stay in target window for results by meeting productivity requirements.
  • Examine and photograph weld samples to identify any non-conforming welds based on each customer's specifications.
  • Maintain storage of weld cross section pictures and data to comply with TS16949 and customer requirements.
  • Provide reports and tracking information quickly and neatly as results become available.
  • Follow all procedures for batch and hold, containment, and rework activities.
  • Ensure all applicable JSN's are scrapped out in the BGM hold system to maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Prepare lab for following shift by implementing 5S and communicating any relevant information.
  • Perform additional weld testing, length inspections, link destruct, ID labeling, plasma cutting, and coupon preparation as needed.
  • Support other departments by supplying data, preparing special reports and projects, etc.
  • Support coworkers through teamwork, training, overtime, etc.
  • Keep the Weld Lab clean, organized, and in a customer presentable state at all times.
  • Continuous improvement by meeting productivity goals, learning and sharing knowledge, and improving skill and ability.
  • Multi task, handle stress, implement advice, avoid distractions, adapt to changes, and work well with others.
  • Follow work instructions and routines to comply with TS16949 requirements.
  • Manage workload, schedule, break times, productivity, and teamwork.
  • Work extended hours and altered schedules to provide coverage for production requirements and scheduled time off.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Key Qualifications/Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
  • Background in welding and/or weld quality preferred
  • Vocational training in welding preferred
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Post-secondary education preferred, or related experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Operate standard office equipment preferred

Physical Demands:
  • Office and General factory environment
  • Able to be flexible in hours of work on short notice in order to meet internal/external customer requirements (scheduled and non-scheduled overtime shifts, etc.)
  • Possible Shift Work
  • Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time, and occasional bending and stooping.
  • Remove cradles from racks and lift cradles onto tables
  • Lift over 80 pounds
  • Empty totes full of coupons into recycling bins
  • Flip full size frames with the use of an overhead hoist
