Job Description

NBC4 Los Angeles is looking for a passionate and dynamic sports journalist. This role requires expertise in anchoring, reporting and storytelling. The perfect candidate is both dynamic and must be able to secure big interviews, tell character driven stories, and make sports relatable to a general news audience.   

This position may also require you to produce, shoot or edit stories for multiple platforms.  

Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Anchor weekend newscasts, fill-in anchor during the weekdays on linear and non-linear broadcasts, co-anchor special coverage, report during the weekdays depending on sporting events.  
  • Produce multi-platform content with a focus on strong enterprise sports stories. 
  • Help plan for daily and large sports coverage with producers, assignment desk and managers.

Qualifications
  • B.A. degree or equivalent in Journalism & Communications, or related field. 
  • Minimum of 5 years anchoring and producing sports in a medium or large market for broadcast, digital and social media. 
  • Strong knowledge of the Southern California sports market, teams and athletes. 
  • Knowledge of sports video rights issues for various digital and broadcast platforms. 
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) both written and spoken preferred 
  • Must possess strong journalistic skills, have ability to write and edit broadcast and digital copy. 
  • Creative approach to storytelling and problem solving 
  • Ability to make priority decisions under deadlines 
  • Must be self-directed, highly organized, detail oriented and team player.  

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Must have a flexible schedule with an ability to work non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, holidays and during breaking news emergencies including hurricanes as needed

  • Successful candidate will be required to join the SAG AFTRA union if not already a member and remain a member in good standing of that union 
  • Must have a valid driver's license

Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

Salary: $102,000 - $160,000 DOE
