Water/Wastewater Treatment Process Specialist

Job Description

• Monitor the wastewater and water treatment facilities to comply with state NPDES permit and other regulatory limitations.
• Provide day-to-day support for treatment system(s) process control decisions.
• Review and be familiar with day-to-day operations, operating and performance data, and planned production activities.
• Provide direct guidance for process control decisions to the shift operating groups.
• Coordinate process unit start-up / shut down to accommodate production changes.
• Work directly with production operations and treatment system staff to plan management of abnormal operating conditions.
• Conduct and interpret laboratory analyses for efficient process control.
• Understand the applicable departmental SOP’s, plant safety and environmental policies, and possess a general understanding of the facility wastewater permit.
• Provides mentoring, leadership and training to operating staff
• Develops budgetary estimates of plant needs and assists department manager in preparation of the annual budgets.
• Performs operational inspections of existing and new facilities to ensure equipment and processes operate properly and in accordance with specifications.
• Responds to plant emergencies after hours as needed
• Coordinates maintenance needs with the department Manager and Maintenance Group Leader.
• May be required to coordinate and conduct tours of the plant and open house activities that include interaction with outside customers and public officials on matters related to operations.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

• Understanding of existing water treatment and wastewater Treatment Process operations
• Ability to communicate technical matters verbally and in writing
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other groups, outside officials, employees and the public.
• Basic knowledge and ability to operate computer systems including Microsoft Office based PCs and Distributed Process Control Systems.
• Work is in the presence of hazardous chemicals as defined by OSHA standards.
• Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and work in elevated locations.
• Ability to visually and physically inspect equipment and processes at anytime of the day or night.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

• Knowledge of the chemical, biological, and physical processes involved in the treatment of water and wastewater.
• Knowledge of plant discharge requirements under the facility NPDES operating permit.
• Hold a TN Level 3 or 4 Wastewater Operator Certification or be willing to pursue in an agreed upon timeline.
• 6+ years experience in operations or maintenance position at an advanced large wastewater treatment facility is a plus

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $91980 - $156330
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
