Qualifications
Verification (by transcript or certification) of successful completion of Nurse Aide I course or successful completion of the Competency Test. Nurse Aide II-Advanced course is preferred and may be provided post-hire. No prior experience required.
Requires the ability to read, write and understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff and physicians while performing their job duties.
BLS. Mandatory Reporter. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI) within 6 months of hire. (Mental Health, CD). In Home Health must have completed Nurse Aide I course.
Performs duties that may involve exposure to hazardous substances. Works in normal patient care areas. May be exposed to infectious or communicable disease while performing or demonstrating direct care tasks. Exposed to the possibility of injury form irrational or confused patients and visitors, or from instruments and equipment. Ability to work in a stressful, fast-paced and every changing environment.
Basic language, basic math, basic to intermediate reasoning ability. Basic computer skills required. Ability to work with diverse groups of people. Ability to work under pressure and in high stress situation/environment. Ability to take direction and work with accountability.
Position Summary
The Patient Care Assistant, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, works collaboratively with the health care team to provide outcome/goal-based patient care. The Patient Care Assistant observes and reports the patient's response and progress to interventions. Adheres to MercyOne Northeast Iowa's performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of MercyOne Northeast Iowa.
