The City of Eagan's Water Resources division is seeking a Water Resources Intern to join our team this summer. This is a great opportunity to gain skills and experience in your field! The Water Resources Intern supports the implementation of the City's Water Quality and Wetland Management Plan and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program by providing outdoor labor for regular activities and special projects. The Intern will also assist with various indoor tasks.
This position runs from May 20, 2024 through August 26, 2024.

Essential Position Functions
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Actively participate in intern development opportunities hosted by various City departments throughout the term of the internship
  • Perform regular physical and chemical monitoring of lakes
  • Data compilation and entry into computer formats, including Excel and basic GIS
  • Plant management/maintenance including herbicide application for invasive species control
  • Public education and engagement activities
  • Assist Stormwater Intern with stormwater inspections and maintenance as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Competently and safely operate:
    • Various monitoring, sampling, and field equipment
    • Small boats and outboard motor
    • 4-wheel drive, light utility truck and non-motorized watercraft
    • Personal computer and peripheral equipment

Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be currently enrolled or have graduated in the previous 12 months from high school, trade school, college, or a University emphasizing or related to civil engineering, Water Resources or environmental engineering, stormwater management, or landscape construction
  • Ability to perform the essential position functions under the working conditions described

  • Previous training or experience in Water Resources sciences or management
  • Previous training or experience in data collection and management
  • Detail-oriented and comfortable with large Excel datasets

Position Expectations:
  • Ability to work in a team and to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public
  • Ability to think analytically and independently, and to make appropriate judgments
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office computer programs
  • Willingness to work in a variety of weather conditions, with or without supervision

Working Conditions, Physical Demands and Hours of Work:
  • Full-time, seasonal, 40 hours per week
  • Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm with occasional hours before/after normal working hours 75% field work, 25% office
  • May require working outdoors in all weather conditions from May through August
  • Conditions may include uneven, rough terrains in wildlife and wetland habitats as well as construction sites
  • Must have ability to lift, turn, move, carry, place, and retrieve documents, tools, or objects weighing up to 70 pounds from all levels of a 7-foot high car top, storage shelf, or file cabinet
