East Cherry Creek Valley Water and Sanitation District (ECCV) has been sustaining our community by providing safe and reliable water since 1962. Sourced from the South Platte River and non-tributary aquifers, ECCV distributes water to approximately 65,000 customers in the eastern portions of the City of Centennial and unincorporated Arapahoe County. The Water Quality Technician performs sample collection, analysis using bench top equipment, calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment, coordination with contract labs as needed, data collection and reporting, and other support of the Operations Department. The position is responsible for utilization of proper techniques and methods to produce reliable data as required for process control, process improvement, and compliance records.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collects samples from raw groundwater, surface water supplies including streams, rivers, canals, and reservoirs, treated water samples from the transmission and distribution systems, and water treatment plants.
  • Ensures compliance with chain of custody with all samples collected.
  • Conducts Water Quality analyses using standard bench top and handheld equipment, plus additional more sophisticated equipment as needed.
  • Records test results and maintain records to comply with state and federal requirements for water treatment process control and transmission and distribution operations.
  • Maintains process instrumentation and performs calibration and routine maintenance of lab and operations related instrumentation according to schedule.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of basic chemistry.
  • Ability to understand and follow chain of custody procedures.
  • Basic knowledge in the proper use of commonly used laboratory methods, equipment, supplies, and data management.
  • Ability to perceive and apply the basic theory underlying analytical procedures.
  • Must be able to perform mathematical calculations with accuracy.
  • Basic knowledge of standard methods of analysis and applicable drinking water regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of potable and collection systems inspections, regulations, and quality control; physical, biological, and chemical sampling techniques and applications; related environmental health issues; and basic microbiological and chemical analysis techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret and apply local, State, and Federal regulations regarding Water Quality control; conduct routine tests on raw and treated water samples; and maintain detailed records.
  • Basic knowledge of routine microbiological and chemical analysis using laboratory procedures and instruments.
  • Ability to accurately compile, analyze and interpret facts to troubleshoot; arrive at valid conclusions and make logical decisions to solve problems; exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, critical and analytical thinking, and problem-solving.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years' experience in Water Quality analysis/sampling or directly related field.
  • Some coursework related to Water/Wastewater, Chemistry, Biology, or a directly related field preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and pass a background check.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

This position consists primarily of lab and field work with reoccurring office work and requires the frequent operation of a district vehicle to various work sites including remote locations. This position requires full range of physical motion with hand/eye coordination: for frequent standing and walking including on uneven terrain; for the use of tools and equipment; for the ability to access confined dark spaces, including vaults, water tanks and manholes; to climb stairs, equipment, and ladders. Position includes the occasional lifting and/or moving of items up to 100 pounds and regular lifting of 20-50 pounds of equipment and tools upstairs and elevated surfaces. Field work includes exposure to all weather conditions and working in potentially hazardous environments which may involve handling and exposure to hazardous chemicals as well as higher than normal noise levels. May involve coming into regular and sometimes long-term contact with bacteria and odorous, infectious, and obnoxious material. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.


Position pay range: Min $40,000/yr. - Max $60,000/yr. Pay based on qualifications and experience. ECCV is an equal opportunity employer.
