Job description

Perform all tasks related to the operation of the water purification system, including the control and monitoring of all electronic and/or manual control systems and the care and maintenance of said control systems, telemetric units, analytical devices and the associated physical facilities and the performance of control tests to allow process optimization.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

The duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform physical and analytical testing in the plant and in the field to evaluate the proper dosing and performance of systems in maintaining water quality.
  • Operate the Water Treatment Facilities of the Erie Water Works whether manually or under supervisory control by a SCADA System.
  • Monitor and maintain proper characteristics of flow and pressure in the distribution and storage systems for raw and finished water.
  • Maintain all record keeping functions of specific operational parameters.
  • Monitor and communicate the conditions of the water system with other operators, maintenance, and distribution personnel when required.
  • Monitor and control the levels of chemicals in storage and perform all necessary tasks to assure a continuous supply of all treatment chemicals including the supervision of tank filling and the changing of chlorine cylinders.
  • Perform all functions related to the compilation of historical data and trending to predict operational responses to changing water quality and system conditions.
  • Maintain testing apparatus in the distribution system and collect samples from the distribution system in order to monitor and maintain water quality.
  • Perform duties related to the maintenance of water quality such as system flushing, tank flushing and turnover.
  • Follow all safety regulations as required by the Erie Water Works.
  • Perform other similar and related duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: Related experience in water, wastewater treatment or other technical field is preferred.

SKILLS: Must be capable of performing multiple functions in a computer environment. Knowledge of and ability to utilize spreadsheets and databases to produce reports. Strong math skills including Algebra. Good interpersonal skills.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS : Must possess good hearing, vision and speech. Must possess a valid and current drivers' license. Must possess or obtain within two years, after achieving the position, the highest operators certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection of either A-1, B-1, or C-1, for which the operator is eligible according to the PA DEP requirements for qualifications and experience and must obtain the A-1 license when eligible.

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT: Personal computer, printer, hand tools, calibration equipment including turbidity and particle counting standards and tools, jar testing apparatus and chemical analysis instrumentation including but not limited to pH meters, turbidity meters, and colorimeters. Mechanical equipment including, but not limited to valve turners, metering pumps, pressure regulating devices, chemical monitoring and handling devices and protection equipment. Safety devices such as personal air-pacs and monitoring equipment. All other devices and equipment necessary to accurately complete the functions of the job.

Pay: $25.60 - $37.40 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Weekends as needed
