Putnam WPCA Wastewater Division
The Town of Putnam WPCA is accepting applications for the position of Drinking Water Treatment Operator. This position is a Union position with hours of operation of Monday – Friday 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM for 40 hours per week.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid Motor Vehicle License and a Connecticut Class I Water Treatment Operator Certification. (Pay based on certification level and experience)
- Ability to follow direction on water sampling techniques.
- Must be able to operate small equipment.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in operations of Water and Wastewater treatment with applicable training.
- If no certification is held, it will be required to receive an active certification within eighteen months from hire.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill:
- Knowledge: Working knowledge of operation and maintenance of power- driven equipment and use of hand tools generally used in water treatment facility constructions and equipment maintenance work. Working knowledge of occupational hazards and of safety precautions to be exercised to ensure safe operation of equipment, and to assure the safety of fellow workers and the public. Basic knowledge of mathematics.
- Ability: Ability to interact in a positive and effective manner with employees and the public. Ability to execute oral and written instructions in a precise manner. Ability to analyze the proper performance of pumps and water treatment equipment. Ability to operate treatment and testing equipment, power, and hand tools in a safe and efficient manner. Working, mechanical aptitude to diagnose equipment problems and perform minor repairs.
- Skill: Excellent employee relation skill and ability to handle multiple tasks in a safe and efficient manner. Good judgement, motor operating skills and able to maintain effective staff and customer relations.
Physical Requirements:
Moderate to heavy physical effort required concerning the operation and maintenance of department equipment and performing manual tasks. Physical demands may require the occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds, Employee must be able to access all areas of a construction work site. Employee must use caution while driving, particularly during inclement weather. There is likely to be a great deal of standing, waking, sitting, and talking or hearing, employee is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Employee is required to reach with hands and arms, bending and climbing and working in dimly lit areas.
Must be able to hear normal sounds, distinguish sound as voice patterns, and communicate orally. Specific vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust and focus. The use of equipment may occur under hazardous conditions; the employee must be always watchful for potential safety hazards.
