The Summit YMCA, a branch of the Summit Area YMCA (SAY), is seeking experienced, energetic Water Exercise Instructor to teach classes to our members and help take our aqua fitness programs to the next level at our community pools. The Water Exercise Instructor is responsible for conducting group Water Exercise classes and programs in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures
This position is part time with an opportunity to teach multiple classes per week. Wages are competitive, starting $28/hour, but are based on experience. Benefit of employment at the Y incudes a free YMCA membership and discounts on family membership.

Essential Functions:
  • Prepare and execute a safe and appropriate class.
  • Perform and demonstrate all exercises correctly. Recognize and appropriately correct members who are performing an exercise incorrectly or in an unsafe manner.
  • Use and demonstrate equipment use properly.
  • Prior to the start of a class, introduce yourself and remind all participants that if leaving the class early for any reason they must give you a thumbs up as a signal to let you know they are okay.
  • Provide proper cueing and coaching to class participants.
  • Provide modifications to participants when applicable.
  • Use appropriate music throughout class.
  • Be able to apply biomechanics and physiology of movements to members.
  • Start and end class on time.
  • Dress appropriately for assigned duties.
  • Stay abreast of the needs of the participants and relay this information to the Director.
  • Participate in opportunities provided or made available, to continually become more educated, maintain current certification status, and/or learn about other areas( that could benefit you and program participants.
  • Relate to the class with enthusiasm, patience, and concern. Consistently find ways to motivate members of the class.
  • Know and perform proper emergency procedures.
  • Communicate in advance of any planned absences to your supervisor.
  • Report any maintenance concerns or problems to supervisor.
  • Follow all YMCA fitness and Association policies and procedures as designated by your supervisor and the Employee Handbook.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and training as necessary and assigned.

Requirements
Qualifications:
  • Current Water exercise certification
  • At least one year experience teaching Water Exercise classes
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Good communication skills
  • Be knowledgeable about health & fitness field including current trends and safety issues.
