POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Water Exercise Instructor will engage members in energetic, robust workout routines in the pool, while building lasting relationships with participants to contribute to high member retention.
Shift Schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, and/or Friday mornings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Plan and teach engaging exercise routines, choose appropriate music, and choose a variety of movements to create a fun, energetic exercise environment
  1. Evaluate individuals’ abilities, needs, and physical conditions, offering alternative movements to accommodate and keep the class enjoyable and physically able
  1. Teach proper breathing, hydration, and rest to active participants
  1. Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations about the Aquatic facility and exercise equipment
  1. Maintain equipment inventory by selecting, storing, and issuing equipment as needed
  1. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines in the aquatic area, while explaining to members the reasoning behind the rules
  1. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures
  1. Instruct and build relationships with program participants, adapting routines to participants’ wants or needs

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Two years of college or equivalent preferred
  • May be substituted with at least two years of related work experience
  • Six months or two seasons of related experience in related aquatic programming
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Current certifications in CPR/AED, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens/Preventing Disease Transmission
  • AEA Water Exercise training preferred

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

STARTING PAY: $16.50/hr
